Sorry but no. Do not take an autistic child to the parade. I’m an autistic adult who is an expert at masking and I’m dreading it

😳😳 I've got to try - this is a one time memory 😬

Well it shouldn’t be a one time memory. My advice would be don’t. But going on your previous threads and comments you won’t take any advice and I’ll see your thread on Monday about your daughter having the mother of all meltdowns

Whoa theres no need for that

I'm gonna do all I can to make sure it goes smoothly - if she couldnt cope at all, i wouldnt be attempting it.

Yes, you've already said, ignore that poster. It was unnecessary when at this point you're just thinking it through.

Also, if it hasn't been said a million times before, one person's autism is not the same as another.

You'll give your girl a good day whichever way it works out.

Elliania · 25/05/2026 19:29

If she's only showing mild interest at lifting the trophy and only really enjoys cheering the goals - do you really think waiting around for hours just to watch the players go past in 5 minutes on a bus is worth it? Plus I think you'd be crazy to take a buggy large enough for your 7 year old and try to navigate the crowds.

Thank you, this is what I was getting at. I’m autistic and supported them massively for 40 years, obsessively at times, and I’m worried how I’m going to manage the parade

Honestly, I think we will be okay, as long as i am careful

Ive got some ideas for how to do things and I would like to try and take her

As much as her autism means we have to be careful, it doesnt mean that she must miss out on the event of a lifetime that will stay with her as a gooner

If it gets too much, I will reevaluate - and if we cant, we cant, but i will try

Collectingalltheceos many thanks

I wonder if the club has anything online re autism support and advice, accessibility re the parade etc? Some are better than others at this....

Ours was clear where the accessibility area was and that it allowed carers, but given it was first come first served woth a limited number, where other quieter spots may be along the route.

Could be worth checking

Electricsausages · 25/05/2026 19:50

And West Ham are still bellyaching about villa losing to the spuds 😏

I called them and they dont have anything 😞 x

Ive called businesses who've said just to get there early

I think if I park nearby in the early hours, and take an uber home and back, we should get close enough to see a bit of the parade, which might be the best way, and then go back to our car

I'm yet to figure out a solid plan but I will

Or I wont - if we cant do it, we cant, but i owe it to her to try. If crowds and walking were a hard no, i wouldnt be trying

Which as a Villa fan I find hilarious. If they'd had a europa league semi in a few days, they would have done the same. And if they'd won more of their own games, well.....

My only annoyances are that a)I would have preferred Spurs to take their cheese room to the championship for the LoLs, and b) that as a Londoner, the costs of their stadium will inevitably pop onto my council tax next year.

Once again, genuinely, no. Especially if she only has some passing interest. There were people queueing up near the ground at 6am yesterday… for context 6 hours before the pubs opened and a whole ten hours before the match even started.

Also, we started so poorly we basically gave everyone else a 10 point head start and still finished 4th. So the Hammers can enjoy their trip to Lincoln on a rainy Tuesday in November.

And that's with the match being near me in South London!

I’m coming down from the north east and already regretting it massively. We’ve booked to come Friday so that we could get somewhere close Saturday morning as the pubs opened but I had no idea people would be literally queuing for six hours!

runningonberocca · 25/05/2026 20:12

Not into football but very glad that Arsenal got their win. Tues night great atmosphere around. Yesterday was awful - loads of very drunk men roaring into your ear as you walked by, sending off flares, tried to push over the bus I was on, spraying the buses in red paint, then as the night wore on , urinating everywhere ( especially our front garden. The smell of piss on the streets this morning was woeful. And the bins kicked over .
A friend - male, lifelong Gunner, local, in his 50s - tried to go out yesterday and said he went home because it felt unsafe. I think his exact words were “ it was like a zombie apocalypse “.
I’m dreading next weekend. There’s no way I’d take a 7yr old kid into it - neurodiverse or not

MauriceTheMussel · 25/05/2026 21:02

I live along the parade route - the entire route is flanked by incredibly narrow pavements, and it’s not a long route at all. I just don’t see how you’re a) going to get a view and b) not be squished in a thousand deep.

You can’t go near the beginning of the route as that’ll be the most popular. Pavements along Aubert Park and Highbury Grove are tiny. By the time it turns west on to St Paul’s Road, it hits an incredibly busy pub (The Alwyne Castle) on the corner (that yesterday had people teeming on to the road from the large beer garden at 11.30am), then its tiny pavements again, a mess at Highbury Corner, tiny pavements again, and then it’ll be another bottleneck when they turn at the town hall

Not sure if your meaning of parking “nearby” - yes, you’ll get a ticket within a fairly hefty radius if normal match day restrictions are anything to go by BUT your car is also then sitting pretty amongst hundreds of thousands of drunk fans and possibly some very pissed off Spurs fans

murasaki · 25/05/2026 21:19

I'm a bit disappointed in Arsenal to be honest. Ours was, albeit it potentially planned in advance, rushed out one day post final given the clashes with pride this weekend and policing needs, including a big stop on a square for speeches and a dedicated disability area there. They've had ages and really haven't tried to make it accessible.

Poor show all round.

She likes her arsenal top!

Oh please, they are part of the Sky 6 and been involved in the upper echelons of the table for decades. Poor you's having not won a title for 20+ years. So entitled.

Of course the majority of their fans are plastic glory hunters. Their 'fans' filming themselves in the ground, half & half scarves, traditional London accents replaced by Home Counties middle class Received Pronunciation. Arsenal are the latest “trendy” London activity. International fans with less than zero connection to the club, or indeed to north London, saying stuff like “London is red”.

I live in SE London. Arsenal fans are all over our catchment area. This title will pull even more fans into their fold. Young supporters who should be following Palace, Charlton, Millwall, Wimbledon or Bromley. Clubs that they can be part of and involved in their community. Clubs that they can get tickets and attend games regularly. Clubs that will celebrate a draw harder than these blow-ins with their shiny arsenal shirts, nursing a cordial in the pub for 90 minutes and singing 'north london forever' without a hint of irony.

More bitter than John Smiths 🤣🤣🤣

Hi @mumofoneAloneandwell!

I think you would be mad to try to go. I know you are trying to encourage her to have interests etc but honestly having a picnic at home and watching it on the tv will be enough for her. You really really don’t have to try to make this a huge memory for her. If she watches it on tv you can replay it for her and embed it in her memory. But if she is only loosely interested please do t put either of you through it.

I think the telly and an indoor picnic is probably best. She can wear her shirt, you could colour theme some of the food, e.g. strawberries and cream, margarita pizza, that sort of thing.
