HELP Can I have your top tips for cleaning my reading glasses.

My glasses keep smearing. I've tried the wipes, used washing up liquid and just plain water.
Can't go an hour before they need cleaning again.
What do you use

My spray bottle of window cleaner and a paper towel.

Did you have them coated with anti glare? If so you are on a losing battle. I could never keep them clean constant smears! When I got new glasses in Feb I was quite adamant no anti glare! It’s been a game changer.

Microfibre cloth

Vinegar and kitchen roll.
What are they getting smeared with?

Same! Haven’t tried a microfibre cloth though. Usually just use my T-shirt or whatever. I’m sure I had the anti glare thing too.

No synthetic fibres, just a pure cotton tshirt and breathe on the glasses first. I also give mine a really good go with my wet cotton towel after I have wrapped my hair in it every morning. Any polyester and it won’t work as well.

Everything changed for me when I read a hint on here.

Use old fashioned cotton hankies rather than your top or paper towel. Just something about the cotton that works. I use them with Asda glasses cleaner and they last ages now.

Microfibre cloth and avoid touching them 😂

It may be that the lenses are getting clean initially, but the cloth is then putting a little oil or residue back onto them.
Wipes can leave residue, and washing-up liquid can too if it is not rinsed away completely. I would rinse the glasses under lukewarm water first, use a tiny amount of mild soap only if there is visible grease, then rinse thoroughly and dry them with a freshly washed, clean microfibre cloth.
The cloth is often the overlooked part. Once it has picked up skin oils, moisturiser, makeup or fabric-conditioner residue, it can start smearing rather than lifting the marks away. Washing it without fabric conditioner and keeping it somewhere clean between uses can make a surprising difference.
Also try not to keep polishing the same mark repeatedly. If it is still smearing after one or two gentle passes, rinse the lenses and use a different clean area of the cloth rather than pressing harder.
If the lenses are older and have a coating that is breaking down, that can sometimes look like constant smearing too, so an optician can check that if none of the above changes it.

Zeiss lens wipes. Brilliant.

I find Zeiss wipes leave too much residue. Although useful if desperate and out and about . I use a spray because then I can control the amount of liquid more easily. Use a microfibre cloth. Don’t wash the cloth with fabric detergent as it leaves waxy traces.

Careful of using washing up liquid or vinegar as that can damage lens coatings.
