Niche request I know! My older neighbour has asked me to help find her a night vision camera to watch hedgehogs. All I know is she has an apple mac computer- no idea of version, if there is an SD card etc. Any ideas?

We have one of the cheap ones from Amazon, they are all fairly similar at this price point, we paid about £40-£50. I have a new iMac (2024) with no SD card slot but you can buy a SD card reader to fit in the back, I also can use this on iPad and iPhone. I also have an older iMac (2017) with an SD card slot in it. Photos just transfer as normal.

@RedRiverShore6 Thank you so much. As lovely as my neighbour is, I can imagine her asking me to go around daily to help download pics, connect her mobile etc. I shall have a look at amazon.

I have a few proper trail cams and they may be a bit much for her. I have seen people use the blink cameras, like the ring doorbell, and keep the focus on the garden and quite sensitive so it picks up animal. Those you can see on your phone.

A lot of normal security cameras use infra red.

I have one of those ones that clips onto the bottom of a phone and turns your phone into an IR camera.

It's fantastic for diagnosing thermal issues with electronics, central heating for example, but you would probably get bored of using it to watch wildlife (or your arm would drop off).
