If a woman on the Tube called you a piece of shit...

what would you do? Was minding my own business standing on the escalator ( right side naturally ) when a woman pushed past me on the left yelling abuse and giving me the evil eye. It was quite startling.

I ignored her.

I'd assume she was crackers.

MissyB1 · 18/05/2026 20:09

Roll my eyes and then ignore. She could have a mental health disorder or be high or whatever. Don’t worry about it, just be glad you aren’t her.

This is what I would usually assume in London. But I am brown. Not to play victim or anything but feeling a bit jittery after the Tommy Robinson March.
Also she then moved off and stood quite calmly on the platform. Middle aged woman, didn't seem to be high.

It's hard for us to answer OP, because I realise racism is real, but I cannot begin to imagine why you would want to say that to someone because of their ethnicity so it is very hard to get inside the head of someone that might.

For me it seems more likely to be MH.

mindutopia · 18/05/2026 20:14

I’d tell her to F off, but this is probably why I’m most likely of anyone I know to get stabbed. 🤣

MissyB1 · 18/05/2026 20:16

Yes she could have been a racist, I guess it would be very hard to know.

And this kind of racism v unusual in London, at least in my experience.

Must be MH.

Whether it's racism or something else, she has something wrong with her to act this way. Try not to let it upset you - it's not personal, she doesn't know you. I know it's unpleasant.

JuliettaCaeser · 18/05/2026 20:26

Nutter. I got called a crack whore on the tube once. I was relatively smartly dressed white lawyer.

Dh had a woman jabbing her finger in his face and hissing “you should be ashamed”. Never found out what for. They walk among us sadly.

I honestly think so. I know it is easy to feel targeted but I think it's just a random outburst.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 18/05/2026 21:48

On the tube?

😭😭 i'd 100% assume crazy and mentally offer her support 💐💐

Don't take it personally op, one time a crazy woman shoved me!

Oh sorry, edited as saw your post re being brown. Racism is on the rise tbh, so it was maybe that. Report her if you see her again x

lljkk · 19/05/2026 07:06

I'd totally watch her to see what other crazy stuff she did.

JuliettaCaeser · 19/05/2026 08:09

I’m not being one of those that dismisses racism it may be that just saying we have also had weird abuse from nutters! Not sure about the advice to “offer support” though - really?!

MidnightPatrol · 19/05/2026 08:12

I’d just ignore it OP. I have countless such incidents on the tube.

Probably not racism - I’ve seen people of all races behaving like this to a range of victims.

Waitingforthesunnydays · 19/05/2026 08:26

I find it hard to believe racism would be the reason in London. More likely you were somehow in her way slightly and she’s obviously a dick so she said what she said. Personally, if it was me, I’d first assess if she seemed drunk/high/psychotic. If she was I’d ignore cos I wouldn’t want the situation to escalate. But if she looked like a normal woman, as you said, I’d probably shout at her to fuck off off the tube if she can’t deal with a queue on an escalator. I’m very reactive in situations like that though, I can’t help it. I think it’s my ‘fight’ response

Probably not racism. ( I am likely overthinking). I stay clear of aggressive people these days though. Everybody is very angry.

Anyway, I have put it behind me. Worse things happening in the world.

London being London, public transport brings out the worst in people. Yesterday I was standing by the door of the bus because there was nowhere else to stand and a lady had a go at me "because she couldn't get past" despite me, in pain tbh, trying to get out of people's way enough.
