Has anyone else been waiting ages for a utr number from hmrc

They are really slow at the moment. Google "HMRC when can I expect a reply" and go to their page that tells you their expected response time. If it has passed you are "allowed" to chase it up by we chat or phone if you have a sufficient amount of your life you are willing to dedicate to the task.

I applied for one recently and it came through within a couple of weeks. No idea why it was so quick as I was told not to chase it up until mid June I think.

Blimey! I'd be tempted to call them to see if they have a record of the application. That, or I'd just apply for one myself on their website and deal with any confusion later.

Something must have gone wrong because when I applied (mid April?), the website said they were dealing with applications from mid March and not to chase them up until mid June. But as I said, it took about 2 weeks.

You're accountant is lying. I work for HMRC. Can you imagine the carnage, never mind the Daily Mail headlines, if this was the case? People missing their SA filing deadline etc

Definitely doesn't seem true and if that really is the case what are they doing about it? I chase up UTRs regularly for my clients if it's passed the "when can I expect a reply date" and yours most certainly is.
