Best things to buy from Costco?

Tonkerbea · 17/05/2026 19:32

We've just joined Costco. A profiterole dessert was purchased (amongst other things). Life was changed. It was soooo much nicer than the stuff you get in regular supermarkets.

The choice is overwhelming though, what are your must-buys please?

We have a run of buying lots we use then another time wander round & only come out with junk food.

Last week we went with a list & bought: coffee, venison steaks, halloumi kebabs, cans of pop, butter, kronenberg beer, apples, falafel & pizzas.

Some of it will last a few weeks & other items get split for weeks meals and the freezer.

The Kirkland brand foil and cling film is excellent and lasts for ages
same with their laundry detergent
their mixed nuts and Japanese rice crackers are nice
the big bags of salad are brilliant and the beef and dumplings (comes in a tray / fridge) is delicious

Top tip - Go at lunch time and fill up on all the tasting stands.

Hard agree on Cling film, foil & the baking paper. I also buy loo roll and kitchen roll (you need storage though so don’t buy if you live in a small space. Washing powder, cleaning supplies etc.

Meat is great quality. Tins of coconut milk, coffee.

They often have great offers on books and Levi’s :)

Do not be tempted to buy something random from the middle, it’s like the Lidl Middle aisle on steroids. Unless you did go in looking for a full sized pool table or a canoe!

Peanut Butter, maple syrup, large bags of pasta, croissants, trays of meat (separate and freeze when home), frozen fruit, coffee beans, olive oil, pizza, roast chicken (loss leader apparently), cookies from the bakery section…….

SugarMiceInTheRain · 17/05/2026 20:02

We always stock up on loo roll, kitchen roll, detergent, dishwasher tabs etc. Their Pepsi Max is also a really good price so I always buy that too.

Food wise, there are loads of good things, salad, large blocks of cheddar cheese, meat (if you can split and freeze some), cakes, cookies.... Also some of the 'ready meals' are much better quality than elsewhere.

LittleFishBigFishSwimmingInTheWater · 17/05/2026 20:06

Cheddar cheese but not the Minstrel stuff, the Coastal or the Colliers which is stocked with the deli stuff.

Fifth the foil/cling film/toilet paper/tissues. Tins and cans. The cookies. Brownie mix. Olympic greek yoghurt. The frozen fruits taste great.

If you ever see the Cheesecake Factory taster pack of 6 different flavours just buy it.

The sausages have a high meat content as does their frozen chicken tenders. The frozen yakisoba, terranyaki and bao buns are also great.

Cupcakegirl13 · 17/05/2026 20:19

The bakery cookies and lemon drizzle , brioche roles which I freeze and pull out on smaller quantities. Ready meals like macaroni cheese and the carbonara bake.
Fruit , anchor butter is very cheap as are eggs. The Kirkland brownie mix is lovely .

Tonkerbea · 17/05/2026 21:03

Thanks for the tips! The sausages and ready meals did catch my eye, and need to stock up on foil. I do actually need a blow up kayak though, so might venture into the middle aisles next time.

I don't like how many ingredients are in their bakery cakes and cookies, so we don't get them.

But we do buy the trays of meat and fish...good quality stuff.

Pretty much anything Kirkland Signature is good stuff, that's their own brand.

Check prices against Aldi etc when you're in there, especially for branded stuff, it's not always cheaper!

NorthXNorthWest · 17/05/2026 21:17

Croissants.

LashesZ · 17/05/2026 21:18

Cheese, peanut butter, honey, avocados, toilet roll, washing detergent, nuts, dates, head and shoulders shampoo, avocado oil..

theres quite a few good value items in Costco but as it’s all in enormous quantity sadly my bill is close to £300 🫩

Carex handwash- 5l
Costco own brand washing up liquid- the one in the massive gallon.
pistachio bites (can eat the entire packet in one sitting)
salt and vinegar crisps in the massive blue bag (your mouth will hurt afterwards but so worth it!)
so much more but I can’t think right now!

MintyPig1989 · Yesterday 09:35

Forgot to add the big packs of dried mango 🥰

LadyDanburysHat · Yesterday 09:38

Large boxes of cereal are handy. We love the chocolate muffins and freeze them.
Frozen chicken nuggets, salmon fillets, sea bass fillets. Brownie mix, pancake mix.

Loo roll, washing tablets, foil etc all worth stocking up on.

the rotisserie chickens are amazing, we got some pork and chilli burgers from the fresh meat section that are probably the most delicious burgers I’ve ever had! Also the giant jar of everything bagel seasoning is amazing. The chocolate chunk shortbread biscuits are the best biscuits ever. The sausages are really good, and the fish tends to be good quality. The enchiladas and burritos are so good also

Oh and the giant bag of jalapeño puff crisps, they’re so good - there’s a giant bag of Korean chicken flavour crisp things as well, also worth getting!

Playplayaway · Yesterday 09:48

The Brownie mix is always top of my list
A cooked chicken
Boxes of walkers crisps
The part baked rolls
Babybels
Cat food
Briggs linen trousers are something like £11 when on offer
I got some lovely Clarks toe post sandals last week for £25
Dh gets the Crew tshirts, around £12
Kirkland own clothes are great quality
I don't buy the toilet rolls anymore as they are thick and clog the loos (if you have over enthusiastic teens)
Hot dog & drink on the way out for £1.50
