As several countries had boycotted Eurovision as Israel hadn't been kicked out of it following it's bombing of Palestine and starting a war against Iran I was expecting them to get no votes. Please can someone explain why anyone voted for them.

It shouldn’t ever be political, but it is. It’s supposed to be about songs. 🙄

Well 5 countries boycotted so I guess that affected the votes to some extent, areas that are more outspoken against Israel excluded themselves. Also those that have strong views pro Israel were more likely to vote to show solidarity. I also think it's likely there was rigging or tampering by Israel either the government or pro Israel groups.

Exactly - if there is going to be a boycott it needs to be agreed amongst everyone.

Piecemeal boycotting deprived them of votes to give to other competitiors and left those who were prepared to vote for Israel on whatever grounds - political / song etc.

It's a song contest

It has NEVER been a song contest.

Thanks for the shouty capital letters - I am aware - I'm 47! Doesn't make it any less stupid does it? Imagine if this was the way we sorted out all global conflict! I think it's unbelievably ridiculous. It's the whole reason that the sarcastic BBC commentary started too - because it is bloody stupid.

They weren’t shouty. They were exasperated.

If you say so. I managed not to do it to you. Equally exasperated.
