Did anyone miss the countries boycotting Eurovision?

Watched Eurovision with the family. Camp silly escapism fun and a dreadful UK entry.. The question is did anyone miss the countries that boycotted the competition (I can't even recall any of them)? 160 million viewers certainly weren't that upset.

The Guardian is trying to portray the competition as embroiled in controversy and it will never be the same again but in reality nothing has changed. Well done Bulgaria by the way.....

Nope. And congrats to Israel on second place!

No anti booing technology required with minimal disruption......

Here we go. A goady post to stir up an issue.

Ultimately most songs sound the same regardless of the country performing them so I’d have been hard pressed to have told you who wasn’t there. Probably gave a few other countries a chance to join in this year so not really a big deal.

peepsypops · 17/05/2026 08:34

@RampantIvyit’s exactly what it is.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 17/05/2026 08:36

We watched the songs. Awful overall. We need to pull out. We just don’t do women wailing, euro disco or anything remotely Eurovision. It’s awful. I don’t care who is in it but we need to stop paying for it!

CieloElmers · 17/05/2026 08:36

Why is this in the CITME boards?

crosscross · 17/05/2026 08:38

No I don't think IRL was missed in Vienna.

I had a look at RTÉ's article on the results. About half the article is about the protests outside, the booing for Israel and details about Gaza. They couldn't even report the results without bias.

Why is this in the CITME boards?

Because the author wants to create an argument, I’d assume.

Chicaontour · 17/05/2026 08:39

Nope I am Irish and proud we didnt take part. We took a stand against apartheid South Africa and hope the Irish team will refuse to Sportswash the genocide. The horrendous attacks against Israelis on Oct were wrong snd the subsequent landgrab and genocide is wrong. History will judge.

Bravo to all the bots voting to secure an in incedible jump from 8th to 2nd place. Go tech!

Ah, you took the bait. You’ll be the worst in the world now.

JadeHare · 17/05/2026 09:09

Must have been a late night.

Justusethebloodyphone · 17/05/2026 09:22

No because I’ve boycotted myself for being crap and not the good kind of crap it used to be.

SyrupTopped · 17/05/2026 09:24

I’m Irish. Most people agree with the boycott.

But I don’t imagine any of the boycotting countries expected the tv coverage to focus on handwringing over absences. It was just voting with your feet.

likelysuspect · 17/05/2026 09:26

I missed it. Who were the ones who boycotted it?

Instructions · 17/05/2026 09:28

Eurovision is usually a big deal among most of my friend groups. This year most people I know weren't watching it, weren't having parties for it, just completely ignored it. It's as if it didn't happen.

Well of course it is. So obvious and boring.

JacknDiane · 17/05/2026 09:36

Its on this board to stir up trouble.
This poster has had an agenda since the conflict in Israel began.

Nothing to do with the actual singing contest.

Anything to stir up division and support for Israel.

TeflonMom · 17/05/2026 09:44

Ah i know should have a coffee first. Proud to be considered worst in the world for calling out genocide. Easy badge to wear.

GeneralPeter · 17/05/2026 10:15

shuddacuddadidnt · 17/05/2026 09:32

Yes, why OP?

There was a boycott of Eurovision by several countries becuase of Gaza.

RampantIvy · 17/05/2026 10:17

Apparently Graham Norton has been slammed for mentionsing the boycott and the reasoning behind it. I can't see what he did wrong. It was pretty factual.

JadeHare · 17/05/2026 10:21

Didn’t Rylan do the same? And got praised for it?

You can’t avoid the issues.
