Has anyone had a phone call out of the blue from a private detective firm?

I had a missed call, yesterday. When I searched the number, a private detective agency came up. Address in London. It had a lot of reviews from people who said that they had helped them locate estranged family.

There was no message left, so perhaps it was a wrong number. Has this happened to anyone else?

Sounds like you're doing some of your own private investigation into this private detective company. Are you after a job?

Curious! I’d call them and ask if they don’t call you back.

Yeah I might do that. I don’t usually answer calls from people I don’t know.

Long lost relative has passed away?

Do you have someone you don’t want to contact you?

I have estranged family. If this happened to me, I would know exactly who it was and it would scare the life out of me.

Alternatively, if you are all happy families and not trying to hide from anyone, I’m guessing it could just be a bit of a random call (maybe someone erroneously gave your number) or maybe they are trying to track down someone you know (a partner, a neighbour, someone who used to live at your address).

I got a missed call a few months ago from a chicken factory! I'm pretty sure I don't know anyone who works in one, and I have no interest in speaking to anyone who works for one.

So I surmised - as wacky as it sounds - that it was a wrong number, and they meant to call someone else!

Could that be what happened here @MyTrivia ???

When get a call from an unknown number on my landline I never pick up unless I am expecting it. I google the number and then make a decision as to whether to ring back or block. I have had a private number for over 20 years and when I call others it shows as "private number". Quite intimidating. The only contact number I offer is mostly my mobile.

My daughter, who is now 17 is estranged from her father who lives in a different county. That’s the only one I could think of. A few people warned me he might get back in contact when the time was closing for him to be liable for child support. But he’s such a bad person I doubt he would ever get in contact and I hope it isn’t him, for my daughters sake!

I know someone who was contacted by some sort of private detective company and it was because a very distant relative had died and left money. They, along with their siblings, ended up with an inheritance and the company took a percentage. They thought it was a scam at first but it wasn’t. Be careful of scams though.

I guess I will see if they call back… I doubt it’s anything like someone dying. But could just have been a wrong number too.
