Is this the new buzzword? Seeing it quite frequently these days!

Also, if anything, “sending hugs OP” is probably on most threads bar AIBU that’s basically a public stoning board.

What are the other new terminologies? Bring me up to speed!

I’ve been on Mumsnet for donkeys & it’s always been a saying.

It’s been around years. Not sure where it started .

AFrogWhosGotAWetAndBoggySmell · 15/05/2026 20:15

It’s been around for ages, it referred to Netmums being a more “hugs hun” kind of place, unlike MN where “hugs” go down like a lead balloon.

Are you new?

Legolaslady · 15/05/2026 20:17

Yeah it was a thing years and years ago when the Net mums were considered to be way too hugs and huns

mangotoo · 15/05/2026 20:18

I've been here 20 years and it's always been a saying.

It was waaay more common on MN about 15-20 years ago. Along with its sister expression, '<manly punch on arm>'

Are you new?

no!! I’ve seen it maybe three times and only in the last few days!

Interesting about the origin! I automatically assumed it’s because everyone assumes MNetters are horrible 😂
