Facebook Messenger Query

So, Facebook sends ‘friend’ suggestions but I have never seen these ‘someone you might know’ suggestions on Facebook messenger. I have dug around this and it is strongly linked with knowing each other’s phone numbers.

I think I’m being spied on by someone who has opened an account in my name (no profile pic and no friends).

Is this possible? I have had both a friend suggestion on FB and a ‘people you may know’ suggestion on messenger. I have never had suggestions on Messenger before (and I’ve had my account since 2004). I have my suspicions as to who it is. Apparently, you only get a suggestion on messenger if you both have each other’s phone numbers stored in your phone.

I don’t know the answer to your question, but have you reported the profile? You should be able to get it taken down if it’s fake.

Of course it’s entirely possible someone who shares a name with you has opened a FB account, and without photos on there, FB/Meta might not be able to remove it as you couldn’t say for certain they’re pretending to be you. Worth a try though.

How though can they be using this account to spy on you? You aren’t going to accept a friend request from someone with your name, and presumably your account is locked down so only friends can see stuff on there. So I don’t see how the goal can be to spy on you? There’d have been better off creating a profile in a friends name surely?

Oh I’ve googled and apparently Messenger will show suggested friends of people who have recently joined Messenger or those whose profile you have visited. So that could explain why this one’s appearing!

I've just clicked on notifications in messenger and there's a massive list of 'people you may know'....I definitely don't have their numbers and they won't have mine

Ok, must be a one off on mine. I’ll just block it.

I've never had that either! Sounds dodgy to me!
