Anyone else feeling deflated by the lack of rental properties available?

I’ve just been looking through rental listings in a fairly generous radius of where I live. Single parent
of two, currently ina rental but will have to unfortunately move soon. In the south east. The offerings are dire, there’s only two available we could possibly afford and that are suitable. 2 bed properties at £1800 a month. I have a chunk of money coming from our property being sold but I can’t get a mortgage as my income is apparently too low for the cost of housing. Ex partner is awful and I do 95% of childcare including all school holidays which massively affects my earning potential. I feel utterly deflated.

Thank the Labour party for this. Landlords are getting out and selling up. As my current tenants decide to leave I too will be almost certainly joining their ranks. It's shit for landlords and tenants alike. And when in 3 years time it becomes illegal to rent out any house with an EPC of less than C - (nearly all Victorian terraces are D), then I can't even imagine how bad things will be.
