International Space Station visible this evening

The International Space Station should be clearly visible for several minutes this evening, starting around 10.20pm (based on London, further west you could see it a little sooner than that). Transit time 7 minutes, travelling from west to east. As long as it isn't cloudy there should be a good view of it.

Looks like a star, but moves.😁

There are more opportunites tomorrow evening.

It’s so cloudy! Shame, because it’s flying high tonight.

Ipsevenenabibas · 13/05/2026 20:57

Oh cool! Except I'll probably be asleep by then!

GuelderRoses · 16/05/2026 00:45

Well, that was weird. I forgot all about starting this thread until five minutes ago when I went to the back door to let the cat in, looked up and there it was, flying overhead. Except it wasn't. Because I just checked the tracker and it wasn't the ISS, it hasn't just gone over the UK at all and was nowhere near.

It looked right - I've seen it loads of times before, west to east, right speed, really high up and definitely not an aircraft.

So... if it wasn't the International Space Station, what the heck was it?

What direction was your mystery craft flying from and to? DP saw something similar the other night. I presumed it was a satellite.

EmeraldRoulette · 16/05/2026 02:08

I went out on the balcony after seeing this post! And then promptly forgot all about the post

I didn't see anything, but the ISS is very distinctive, isn't it. So you're saying it looks like that.

that rules out Starlink satellites doesn't it? Otherwise, that's the most obvious thing.

MyAutumnCrow · 17/05/2026 22:11

ISS due over London around 22.22 tonight.

Might be clear for some of us there and elsewhere.

WNW to ESE for 5 mins.

Just saw it in and out of the cloud up here in the northern lands - so amazing to think of the astronauts inside looking down on the earth.

EmeraldRoulette · 18/05/2026 01:00

@MyAutumnCrow I always wave when it flies over 😂

@GuelderRoses did you find out what it was that you saw?

I wave too!

No, I searched online and found a whole great long list of satellites that you are supposed to see flying over, but none of them were at the exact same time or in the same direction. All very odd.🤖

@GuelderRoses i'm glad it's not just me who waves

I see a lot of stuff that puzzles me but I can never be bothered to look it up. No wonder there are loads of reports of UFOs.

GuelderRoses · 18/05/2026 16:01

@EmeraldRoulette That's just it, isn't it. People see mention of 'UFO' and jump to conclusions. Just because you can't identify the thing it doesn't mean it's little green men coming our way does it? 😎😎

@GuelderRoses yes, people tend to equate UFO with alien. I don't know why. A UFO is exactly that - an unidentified flying object. I'm not expecting war of the world or anything.

These days, I tend to assume everything is just military and they can't tell us about it.
i'm not near a military base but they've got to fly everywhere, I guess.

anyway, I haven't had a chance to look into it but those files that they released in the USA - they said the figures that were seen coming out of things were 3 foot or 4 foot tall? Which is a relief because frankly not many people are shorter than me 😂

I do sometimes wonder if I've seen Starlink but apparently they fly in a row? I've only seen some individual aircraft that I'm a bit puzzled about.

Well yes, it’s compulsory to wave and say hello for some reason!

I've seen Starlink once - like a row of fairy lights.😁

We're in a part of the country with a fair few military airbases (ours and the Yanks) and I've seen a few odd things (one was particularly strange), but have just put it down to them.

We get buzzed by the occasional RAF flight and I assume that there are private flights and helicopters all over the place too. And drones with lights.
