My gum disease journey, I'm on the up....a great day.

I've posted on here before about my periodontal journey navigating this disease.
I've been under a periodontist since April 2002 & from the start I knew it was serious & I've done everything I've been asked to do at home methodically, never missed a night of my regime & the results have been impressive.

I see my periodontist annually and my hygienist every 4 months.

Today was my annual checkup with my periodontist, absolutely everything was fine, nothing but praise.
Then into the adjoining room to have my four monthly appointment with my hygienist.
Again really good, full of praise & the bonus was I'm being moved to 6 monthly hygienist appointments.

I think why I'm posting this is to say that despite my fear back in 2002 that I'd have dentures by the age of 50, here I am at 67 and my mouth is healthy, stable and in great shape.
It really can be done.
I'm proud of myself for sticking with a regime while time consuming has produced impressive results.
Anyone who can relate, please share your thoughts.

Ouch @biedrona , they told me the gum shrinking after scaling would be temporary...maybe it isn't after all...either way...needs to be done...thank you for the heads-up

I have been struggling for years. I really work hard on the routine, but I find the interdental brushes hard work- frequent replacements of heads, different sizes etc. So I still spend loads of money seeing the specialist hygienist at the periodontal centre every few months. It is good to hear of people progressing because sometimes I feel like giving up

This was a really useful thread, thank you..I am 42, just been diagnosed with stage 3, Grade 2, I am confident I can keep to a good regime but I came on here looking for positive stories and this is all I needed, I never heard of the Tepe brushes, I'll have a look, and any other advice that anyone may have is welcome, the hygienist told me I can brush my teeth up to 5 times a day as long as I do it well and not aggressively, but I have become a bit paranoid about eating...like I mess up what I do with the brush, and I have been flossing after every meal...any thoughts or words of encouragement? Thank you in advance!

OP here. Tepe brushes are extremely important, because they reach the part of your teeth that manual brushing or electric brushes can't reach. I think you can buy a starter pack of different sizes to see which ones are best for your mouth. I only use them at night time.
I think that five times a day brushing is too much ..... obviously I'm not dentally qualified but I could see me doing more damage than good. I rinse my mouth out after every meal to remove any particles that might be lurking round my mouth.
I've stuck to my cleaning regime for over 20 years and it's paid dividends, my gum health is stable and continually praised by my periodontist and hygienist.

I've always said I could do my cleaning regime in my sleep, (been doing it for over 20 years now) and no matter how tired I am, I never miss a night because it's second nature to me now.
I love my Tepe brushes, but I agree they are fiddly and take a bit of getting used to.
Don't give up, if I can do it anyone can.
It's hard work.....believe me, but worth it.
