Settle an argument... wet socks or no socks? 💦👟

Out today at a theme park with DH and the kids (DS16, DD15 and DS9). Everyone is looking good in their new clothes and trainers.

We went on the big water ride and, despite the "splash-proof" capes, we all got absolutely drenched. Our socks and trainers are soaking. We still have hours left here and lots of walking to do.

The family has split into two camps:

The Boys (DH, DS16, DS9): Took their wet socks off and put their bare feet straight back into the new trainers. They say it’s "fresher." I’m sitting here now and I'm convinced the shoes are going to be ruined and stinking by the time we get home! 🤢

The Girls (Me and DD): We wrung our socks out and put them back on. It’s a bit squelchy and cold, but at least our feet aren't rubbing on the shoes.

DH is looking very smug, but DS16 is already starting to complain that his new Air Jordans are getting whiffy

Settle this for us—which is the lesser of two evils?

No socks.

Dozycuntlaters · 12/05/2026 15:40

Def take those socks off......much lesser of the 2 evils

OneTimeThingToday · 12/05/2026 15:41

Take the socks off, squeeze out, have them on outside of your bag to dry, then put back on.

The trainers will be smelling as they are wet.

Socks off.
The worst blisters I've ever had are from wearing wet socks on a hike.

CheekyBlueKoala · 12/05/2026 15:42

Nooo keep socks on. They'll have blisters by the end of the day and stinking shoes. And how is it more comfortable? They're just swapping wet socks on their feet for wet shoes.

Parky04 · 12/05/2026 15:43

Who wears new trainers to a theme park! Anyway, I'm in the socks off camp.

tealandteal · 12/05/2026 15:45

Can’t you dry them under a hand dryer? Socks and shoes?

limetrees32 · 12/05/2026 15:47

Socks off .
And in future pack a spare pair.

This is what I did with DSD when we went to Florida.

Theraininspainishere · 12/05/2026 16:30

I thought everyone leaves those water rides until the end of the day?

ginasevern · 12/05/2026 16:32

Socks off. Wet socks will make them feel even more cold.

teaandabun · 12/05/2026 16:33

Is there a gift shop that might sell socks?

ProudPearl · 12/05/2026 16:39

Why on earth would you go on a water ride early in the day?

Definitely no socks, but try to dry the socks if you can.

Octavia64 · 12/05/2026 16:42

The parks often have dryers.

we used to wear plastic shoes like crocs or similar for the water rides and then go back to trainers.

experience teaches me you always wind up drenched from those rides and unless it’s 35 degrees you’ll want a change of clothes.
