What a Circus - Keir Starmer

Just turned on sky news. Press pack outside Downing Street yelling at Minister as they walk in. They're not answering. It's quite a spetacle. Bit like thumbs down in an ancient Rome arena. Apparently Streeting has launched a coup against PM. What a drama.

Apparently the markets are tumbling - worse than they were under Liz Truss

Where's your evidence for that?

Leekpotatosoup · 12/05/2026 23:21

The prospect of Angela Rayner et al chills me. Imo the country last week used the vote at a local level to show a preference for a lean to the right, not to further left politics.
Starmer is taking the hit for the influence of the backbenchers, for Reeves’ economics, for the out of control welfare budget which is making many working people less well off than the unemployed. Educated, calm, moderate Starmer offers stability. I hope he stays.

That70sKid · 12/05/2026 23:24

It’s ridiculous. It’s like a witch hunt. Starmer does right not to resign. We can’t keep changing PM all the time like we have been. I hope he sticks it out and doesn’t succumb to these childish antics.

Andy Burnham is car crash waiting to happen, as is every other even more left leading candidate. There is no successful economy with poor infrastructure, high taxes and low growth. The only question is how many more productive people are they going to force into poverty before they get kicked out?

Add to that Mr Burnham will be giving up on the job he was elected to do in Manchester - He dropped out of something today to go to London.

There should be a rule that, if elected to a role, if you resign, you cannot stand for another public position for a certain time period, its just costing money and causing Chaos.

Typical, no substance or commitment whatsoever!

Paul2023 · 12/05/2026 23:56

Any new leader would have the exact same problems;

Gaza and Israel
Iran
The economy
A divided country with Labour voters moving left and right.
Trump and his demands

How would Burnham or Raynor be any better?

Paul2023 · 13/05/2026 00:00

Just a question. If they force Starmer to resign or set a leaving date could he fuck them all up by calling for a GE?

If enough Labour MPs stab Starmer in the back could he in theory call an election and leave Labour to be wiped out?

Im not saying he would but curious

It’s KEIR. Sir KEIR Starmer. Not Kier. Why are so many of those against him unable to spell his name? It’s just four letters.

So much easier if he changed those four letters to a name we could all recall and all spell.

It would simply be a case of saying what we see...DICK or, as he constantly and tediously reminds us that his dad was a toolmaker-TOOL.

sleepwouldbenice · 13/05/2026 00:41

@MissBowen this type of comment just shows you as crass, nothing else

MissBowen · 13/05/2026 00:56

I'm simply trying to help people try and find an easier way of referring to the Son of a Toolmaker. @sleepwouldbenice There are other four letter names which have been applied to him and they too appear to suit him.

He is not fit to be PM and nor is he fit to be named after Keir Hardy, who is doubtless turning over in his grave at the sight-and sound-of this idiot who bears his name.

He will hold on to power at any price.

He knew he looked and sounded stupid yesterday, with his carefully rolled up sleeves and yet another dishonest chat about his childhood poverty.

I have heard it cast about that his dad, the Toolmaker, owned his own business and even, if that should prove to be an exaggeration-nonetheless a Toolmaker is a skilled and well paid job. So how come, they were in poverty? Tis a mystery.

I enjoy seeing him flounder without grace, intelligence or dignity and I wonder how we have got ourselves into the situation where the best defence many can make for him is that the alternatives are worse.

We have a shower of shit in charge who cannot put forward, from within the ranks of more than 300 shitlings, another name while they wait, quivering for the King of the North to ride in, grab a seat and save them.

Am I crass-maybe but in this instance, little do I care!

JaneFondue · 13/05/2026 06:13

Good god.

StrictlyCoffee · 12/05/2026 22:44

Totally agree. People need to grow up and get the fuck over it. And also realise that Reform don’t give a shit about them and will royally fuck them over to line their own pockets.

Whereas Labour will tax them into oblivion to hand to the welfare state.

keepswimming38 · 13/05/2026 06:56

It’s a circus because of the media. They just need to go home and calm down. It was quite pathetic watching them scrabbling for a story yesterday.

likelysuspect · 13/05/2026 06:58

Batties · 12/05/2026 10:39

If Starmer stays we will not have stability. He is making the Labour Party unelectable, as seen by the elections last week. He needs to go so that the Labour Party can get back in touch with it’s voters, or we will end up with more Reform MP’s.

So if Starmer goes, the plan is that Labour will have Reform type policies is that the plan?

Otherwise what do you mean?

Ludmilaandthelonely · 13/05/2026 08:21

And Wes Streeting is going to be better...or Andy Burnham (dreadful health secretary that he was) will save the day?

To be honest, I think lots of them had worked themselves up into an excited frenzy because they were expecting all the drama of a resignation and they were disappointed because they didn't get it.

This story has legs.

Unless you think Starmer is now safe?

No, he certainly isn't safe yet.

But that doesn't change the fact that the media are doing everything in their power to whip things up even more because they are really enjoying the drama.

How childish.

There's a civil engineering form called Kier. My guess is a lot of people have seen its name on sings and, as it's pronounced the same, think it's the correct spelling. Many won't have heard of Keir Hardy.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 13/05/2026 08:52

LadyMeow · 12/05/2026 10:49

This is simply Farage et al copying Trumpist style populist politics. The divisive messages themselves are amplified millions of times on social media by unhelpful Russian, Chinese and North Korean troll farms. That’s why Keir Starmer is facing a challenge now.

Lol. Starmer doesn't need foreign bot farms to turn people against him and frankly, in the calls for his resignation he's getting exactly what he loved to dish out against the other shower when they were in charge. It's no good whining about stability and revolving doors now when Labour were salivating over getting rid of every PM. If you don't want to reap it, don't sow it. He's resigned in all but name anyway, he checked out of leadership as soon as he won the internal party election.

It’s the same media for every government. Of course they like drama and fireworks. So do readers and viewers.

There’s an argument to be had about media plurality, but we already have rules against concentration of ownership. And all the broadcasters are required by law to be impartial.

It’s odd how Labour’s supporters think the media is doing its job when Labour’s opponents get it in the neck. But it’s terrible media mischief when Labour’s in trouble.

They were certainly in a frenzy. One Sky reporter was frothing about photos from yesterday of Starmer smiling. He claimed they had been carefully selected by No. 10 and were close to being fake news.

He chuntered on that only photos from recognised news agencies should be trusted. Agencies like Reuters and PA.

His face when he was told the photos were from PA not No.10...

Chumps, the lot of them.

He could. It must be tempting to say fuck it and release chaos on yhe UK.

On BBC Breakfast they announced they had some "breaking news". I thought Keir had resigned. No, it was "Wes Streeting has entered No. 10 Downing Street".🙄
