Can I still eat this defrosted chicken

I took it out the freezer either Thursday night or Friday night, it’s defrosted in the fridge and stayed in there the whole time, was going to use it tonight for a stir fry, will it still be okay as packets say to use within 24 hours of defrosting ?

No. And I give most food a go!

I would smell it. That will tell you everything.

it depends how quickly it was frozen too. For example if today was 1st and you bought chicken with use by date of the 5th and you froze it immediately, this would mean when you defrost it it is good for four more days.

if you froze it at the end of its fresh life then a few days defrosted will be too much. But bad chicken smells. You’ll know right away

It doesn’t smell at all

I’ve never left it a few days before once I’ve defrosted something so I was unsure considering it had stayed at a constant temp once defrosted

I wouldn’t.

Bettersuited · 11/05/2026 19:24

Just no

and 100% not if you’re cooking for anyone else

AnnaQuayRules · 11/05/2026 19:24

If it doesn't smell, I'd risk it.

I'm not sure that's how it works, I think after defrosting it needs using within a day or so.

Isobel201 · 11/05/2026 19:27

Should be okay, just cook it well. I had a stir fry too x

Contrarymary30 · 11/05/2026 19:27

Loads of foods I would but not chicken or pork .

CoCoJones26 · 11/05/2026 19:29

Just you eating it, then fine, go ahead. If cooking for others forget it!!

Dartmoorcheffy · 11/05/2026 19:39

If it smells ok and isn't slimy then I would

Lararoft · 11/05/2026 19:41

Just no!! Look up food safety guidelines online.

RNApolymerase · 11/05/2026 19:43

I am usually on the side of it'll be OK, eat it. But not with chicken. You don't mess with chicken.

I binned it on the end and used a fresh pack from the fridge, didn’t want to poison dh, I’d never hear the end of it 😁
