Ros Canter...what a woman

Ros Canter, what a bloody woman.
Won Burghley 3 day event whilst pregnant last Autumn.
Today won Badminton having given birth 12 weeks ago. She's still breastfeeding and made a comment about strapping them down and off she went.

For those who don't follow equestrian pursuits, today's victory is winning the elite of the elite in any field. All atop a 17hh horse ...ie bloody massive! She had dressage Friday, cross country yesterday and showjumping today. She said in her interview she wasn't feeling on top form ...her horse Walter is a legend.

.....and she won this last year too ( and 2023).
I'm absolutely in awe but particularly love eventing as women often do really well. It's a very much equal sport.

She is just amazing. And goes into history as the first person to win it on the same horse three times.
Its like the equestrian equivalent of winning Wimbledon- when breast feeding!

Kitt1 · 10/05/2026 16:41

Surely it was the horse that won?? 🤔

Isn't she just awesome. I've always loved 3DE and read all the books by female eventers when I was young eg Lucinda Green/prior-palmer and Ginny Leng/Holgate.

Oh go away. Your ignorance as to the skill this involves is beyond words.

Agree!

FluffMagnet · 10/05/2026 16:43

I genuinely do not know how she has done it! I managed a very brief 10 minute potter on my elderly pony at 4 months pp and thought myself a marvel!

This is hilarious 😂😂
The amount of non-riders that think you just sit on board and be a passenger is incredible.
Let's keep laughing at them 🤣

I don't know a great deal about equestrianism but the rider has to guide the horse tell it what to do and where to go. It's not going to know what to do by itself especially in dressage. I'm guessing it's more like a partnership.

It’s the partnership between rider and horse that wins. What is lovely about ros is that she praises the horse and her team’s highly as well. And came across so well-rightly proud while acknowledging and grateful for the support she had to get there.

Ponks · 10/05/2026 16:46

She’s amazing and her horse is in a class of his own too.

Squirrelchops1 · 10/05/2026 16:47

I can ride and used to compete low level. If I got on Walter it doesn't mean I'd clear even one fence! Would love to sit on him though...he seems such a safe, clever horse.

She is an incredible woman and what a horse. We were lucky enough to see her on her cross country round yesterday and they were going like the clappers, but in perfect balance and harmony. And then she breast fed her baby.

I’d love to see her as Sports Personality of the Year, it equestrians rarely get a look in.

Same! Perhaps I could convince her to let me have a go, just to show the difference the rider makes!

catin8oot5 · 10/05/2026 16:58

She is such an elegant and sympathetic rider. Well done Ros

On a forum mostly populated by women, on a post celebrating a record breaking, fabulous achievement by an awesome female you felt the need to write a pissy, negative comment? Shame on you!
