Is this a weird sandwich combo?

I can't even remember where I got this from.

Thick white supermarket bread, buttered (pref lurpak) leftover roast chicken (pref breast)

Add lots of salt and vinegar.

Thats it

Nope.
That is beautiful.

TheChosenTwo · 09/05/2026 22:27

I mean I wouldn’t choose it myself, I don’t like vinegar (sardine/malt type) and I’m not sure I can see that it ‘goes’ with chicken.
I suppose I do think it’s weird but only because I wouldn’t eat it. Maybe I’m weird and the sandwich is fine, we tend to think things we don’t like or know much about is weird!

Who cares as long as you like it.

Couldn’t be doing with the vinegar.

My fave is leftover roast chicken and sausage meat stuffing between two slices of well buttered white bread.

You need this in your life

Well... Yes to the roast chicken, butter and white bread. Why does it need salt and vinegar?

But (shamelessly hijacking the thread) I read about a US Depression-era sandwich today of white bread, mayonnaise and peanut butter. ) Lettuce leaves optional, apparently. I'd try it if offered, but has anyone actually eaten one?

Kickinthenostalgia · 09/05/2026 23:15

I usually have chicken, coleslaw and salt. That is an elite combo 😅

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 09/05/2026 23:24

No that sounds good to me. I put vinegar on a roast chicken dinner.

@CrystalSingerFan not sure about the mayo but I quite often have peanut butter and lettuce, or peanut butter and tomato sandwiches. It's lovely.

I would go for my home baked white bread and skip the vinegar - but yeah sounds pretty delicious

EBearhug · 09/05/2026 23:56

Chicken, banana and mayo was a surprisingly good combo.

Does salt and vinegar mayo taste like salad cream?

Krevlornswath · 09/05/2026 23:57

The heart wants what it wants, it sounds decent enough, though I think I'd skip the vinegar.

I went through a phase of chopping up leftover chicken, mixing with mayo, black pepper and a strong grated cheese and whacking that in a roll.

I'm not one for random combinations usually but for some reason as children we were often given peanut butter and beetroot sandwiches (thin layer of crunchy PB and slices beetroot in a brown bread and I've recently been indulging again. Tastes better than it sounds.

Not sure what was going on in our house because we also used to get given avocado and pine nut sandwiches ( mix mayo and a tiny bit of mustard, mix in thin avo slices and some pine nuts and also often got given a piece of toasted bread with mashed cooked plums (i think?) on it, cinnamon sprinkled on top, in the winter.

sesquipedalian · 10/05/2026 00:01

I’d skip the salt and vinegar and put in mango chutney instead.

No, it’s basically if you imagine they’ve tipped the seasoning off salt and vinegar discos into mayonnaise
strangely addictive

You need to follow Ben Rebuck on TikTok who does weird and wonderful toast combinations. If you scroll along the options to toast all the videos show up. There are some weird ones!

WWomble · 10/05/2026 05:21

Seedy brown bread, mayo, roast chicken and sage and onion stuffing with hula hoops on the side. Yummy, The same after Christmas but with turkey.

AlwaysTheRenegade · 10/05/2026 05:24

White bread, salted butter, leftover roast chicken, lettuce, cuc and salad cream.

Endofyear · 10/05/2026 05:38

I love leftover chicken and stuffing in a sandwich 😋 with crisp iceberg lettuce, mayonnaise and cranberry sauce. At Christmas it's leftover turkey instead of chicken, pigs in blankets too, in a bake at home baguette!

dizzydizzydizzy · 10/05/2026 09:55

Sounds horrible but I probably shouldn’t judge….. I used to take peanut butter, jam and cheddar sandwiches (on homemade wholemeal) on bicycle
rides. 🤣

MoonWoman69 · 11/05/2026 09:52

My favourite weird combo for a sandwich is a torpedo roll, filled with bacon, raw sliced onion and mayo! Sounds awful, but someone made me one once and I made that many afterwards, I sickened myself off! 🤣
Another weird one I made up myself was a corned beef and Stilton toastie! That was lovely!
And if you like chicken with vinegar, try it with mint sauce on a roast dinner! It goes really well!
