37 female, had baby 2.5 years ago.
I’ve noticed the past 6 months that my
periods have changed slightly. I’ve had more PMS symptoms like very tender breasts for a few cycles, being able to know exactly when I’m ovulating when I never noticed before, lower pelvic bloating on and off, my periods have gone from 4 days to 6 days and I’ve been keeping an eye on all these things but today, 5 days after period ended i’m bleeding again. Not heavy like a period but pink spotting. I am beside myself. Please anyone who’s had something similar reassure me. I have a doctors appointment for something unrelated on Thursday but I don’t know how I’m going to cope till then.

Perimenopause?

hollygoolightly · 09/05/2026 16:36

Could be ovulation spotting

Permenatlyworried · 09/05/2026 20:13

I took an ovulation test and it was negative!

My friend did. Had blood tests and scans, all normal. Put it down to periods just changing as she's getting older and post kids. Also mid to late 30s.

So very many things can cause midcycle spotting, the vast majority of them benign. Since you have noticed changes to your cycle that are hormone driven, the most likely answer is that this is also hormone driven. The most likely answer will almost always be the correct one.

Worrying will get you nowhere at all. Keep calm and compartmentalise.

I’ve had irregular periods since DD2 was born 13 years ago. I’ve have various scans and smear tests all perfectly normal but it doesn’t stop healthcare professionals being alarmed when I tell them. The moon cup has been my saviour. Go and get checked out for your peace of mind.

I’ve had issues with bleeding between periods since my late teens. It starts at ovulation (with pain) and then continues lightly into my period starts. Not every month, but enough to be annoying. I’ve Had all sorts of investigations and in the end the gyno said it’s probably due to hormonal fluctuations and a small fibroid.

I suggest you see your GP who may do some tests to rule things out. Usually blood tests, STI tests, smear, an examination etc. They may refer you for a transvaginal scan to see if there are cysts or fibroids. I’ve been through it many times.

Point is, don’t worry too much. There are many things it could be (or it could just be hormones) but best to be on the safe side and tests are standard procedure.

Fibroids? See a GP, as obviously no one on here should try to diagnose, but there's lots of treatable things it can be.

Andtheworldwentwhite · 09/05/2026 21:02

I would always get these things checked. But mine was the fact I was taking over the counter vitamins. And it interacted with my contraception pill. Four -five years of constant bleeding ….. scans changed in my pill. And I found out after I had to stop taking it for an operation. It was messing with my pill.

also peri menopause

I’ve not had kids, but same symptoms were fibroids and surprisingly endo for me.

Nearly50omg · 09/05/2026 21:36

Endometriosis and adenymyosis I would get checked out for

You say surprisingly, did you not suspect you had it before you found out? X

Same happened to me post 35. I was scanned & nothing found. I think it’s hormonal.

I then got pregnant and breastfed for 2 years. The month after I stopped BFing, the spotting came back mid cycle.

all my other symptoms sound exactly like yours

Yes I had lots of extra bleeding/spotting and it was adenomyosis.

Nope. Not at all. The fibroids made sense because of the heavy bleeding a clots. Before that, my periods were light, 3 days and painless. Now they are uncomfortable on day one and need managing because of the heavy flow - but still not painful or otherwise disruptive to my life.

Transexamic also has fixed the heaviness problem, so now I feel a bit icky on day 1 but otherwise no real issues if I take TE on the first two days.
