Should I refresh my living room after a difficult time?

Some people might recognise the photos I have added. Anyway when i did this i wasn't in the best of places. I did it because I was associating bright colours with happiness. Life felt crap so I used colour to make if feel better.

When really life felt like the scribble picture so I was just kidding myself really..

Things are much better now. Things are settled and I feel kind of content. And im woundering if I should do a reset. But I also don't want to go to the other extreme of going creams/neutral

Im getting new sofas and flooring so im woundering if I should do a complete reset of the living room.

I do semi still like it. But im kind of associating with a negative period in my life. I don't know if I can tweak it some how or if i get rid and do something completely different 🤔

Absolutely refresh your living room after a difficult time. Hell, I even refresh rooms after an easy time.

Do it 🙂

I have absolutely no idea how to do it, but there’s that AI thing where you can take photos of your room and change colours etc so you can tell if you like it. I’ve seen it done on an interior design group I follow. It would be the perfect way to try it without committing.

WhatWouldDianeLockhartDo · 08/05/2026 22:06

Yes! Do it! If you’re content, I’d go for calm like a sage green but I bloody love sage green.

CHATGPT is telling me to leave it as it is. Because once I get my new sofas it might feel different . And suggested maybe small changes once sofas arrive as I will have better visual.

I was also thinking sage green

Try the Dulux app. You can virtually paint your room.

Do you have a photo of the sofa?

I’d agree that it’s probably better to wait until your new sofas are in place before you do anything.

You could make the room look very different without changing too much though. A big rug matching those colours would look good, as would a big mirror on that plain wall.

Probably right it just would have been good to get painting done before sofas arrive. But I will probably try and dovto much on my iwn and then get burn out and mess it up. And as you say it might work just to add or change small thing's.

Yeah i would find that decor quite overwhelming and oppressive. I'd paint it all magnolia/warm white - you can always add colour with art work or cushions.

No i definitely don't want that. Thats going to the other extreme . I Do want to tone it down a bit maybe set it of in a different way. But I also dont want to go creams.

I'm gonna do what the poster above suggested . Get it all in first see how it feels and decide from there and take my time.

I would change it before new floor and sofas

And I would change it

I would paint it all one colour but a colour

I would probably paint it a dusty lighter pink - goes well with black and pink is a calm, yet creative and inspiring colour

frozendaisy · 09/05/2026 11:39

I think the two walls clash - because the blue wall isn’t the same colour as any of the stripes
the striped wall is a bit busy for the size of room
and the blue a bit dark

dark colours can work but the size of room I would keep whatever colour as one colour on all walks

I think the blue is a little in the vibrant side for a room - especially a living space

you don’t have to go neutrals

as you are getting black sofas I would tend to a lighter colour on the walks
