Does anyone else feel unusually hungry when fighting an infection?

I feel like I must be the only one with this but I have been ill for two weeks. 1st week I started with a chest infection and last week started with an agonising abscess in my tooth which has made me miserable.
Emergency dentist Monday and back to my private one Tuesday. I've been feeling exhausted with tooth and chest but I'm ravenous!
I'm on 2types of antibiotics and 2 types of pain relief which as you could imagine would make my stomach iffy but no.
Tooth has to come out Monday so I'm almost glad it will be a liquid diet for a couple of days.

Insatiable appetite.
I'm managing to eat on one side but within an hour of food I'm starving again.
I did think it could be PMS lurking but I only have an appetite for one day and then back to normal.

Does anyone else get absolutely ravenous when fighting infection!?

Currently I have a skin allergy like dermatitis post antibiotics. Eating seems to be the only thing that stops the itch/takes my mind off it.

Oooh nooo!
Have the Drs given you anything to help with this?
Sorry TMI but I think I'm going to follow you with a bout of thrush after the hefty amount of Antibiotics I've consumed.
Hope you feel better soon x

My granny used to say "feed a cold and starve a fever" or maybe it was the other way around, I forget! So there's something in it.

Usually when I'm right at the beginning of an illness I don't, when I'm in the high fever stage and I cant stay awake and sleep the whole day almost. Then I get an insatiable hunger when I'm starting to recover. Ive always put it down to because I never ate much in the first day or few days.

The phrase “feed a cold/starve a fever” agrees with you.

I always get really hungry just before I come down with something.

Mometasone steroid cream for the short term, I've just started to use it so fingers crossed. I've also been slathering in Aveeno as my skin is really dry which helps that, but not the itching.

Sorry to hear about the thrush, I really empathise.

It really does!
I've been trying to reassure myself it's my metabolism using extra energy to fight the bacteria and viruses.
Lordy get me back to the gym x

I don't get the hungry thing but I do get the sleepy thing, where I fall asleep at the drop of a hat if I'm ill.

I think, based on no scientific evidence whatsoever, that it's part of the same thing? Your body needs extra calories to enable it to heal, you eat to provide those calories, I sleep so I'm not using calories.

On balance, your way, seems more efficient.

Not sure, I have a pretty robust immune system and don’t seem to get ill enough for me to have noticed this as a pattern but I definitely am far more hungry in the few days leading up to my period. I guess it’s just the body preparing itself for something so I don’t think you’re abnormal for this at all!
Hope you get well soon 💐
