Scientists have declared that David Attenborough is a parasitic wasp. Not a very nice thing to say about an elderly gentleman on his 100th birthday.

Can anyone beat that for an unintentionally barbed compliment?

Tiny parasitic wasp named after David Attenborough for his 100th birthday

Specimen from 1983 lay forgotten at Natural History Museum until recently, when spotted by a volunteer and identified as new genus

Well he's already got a boat named after him that by rights should be called Boaty McBoatface so he should be happy with that.

CupcakeDreams · 08/05/2026 07:22

Meh. I don't like him. He calls for death to humanity and is a eugenicist. REALLY happy he's 100, though, because his place on earth is much more important than ours!

A eugenicist??

These people always crawl out of the woodwork when David Attenborough is mentioned. He thinks there are too many humans on the planet. So do I.

Many happy returns! He's in amazing shape for his age.

FruitFlyPie · 08/05/2026 07:46

I don't think it's a barb, DA of all people would agree that one species isn't more special or noble than another, so why not this species.

FruitFlyPie · 08/05/2026 07:46

Most importantly it's available to be named now, it's not like we can rename elephants or lions after him.

I was musing yesterday that he’s been a Sir forever and it’s a shame there’s not something more to recognise him further. And then I heard about the parasitic wasp and thought he’ll be chuffed with that.
