Would you ask to be paid ?

I work a minimum wage job and when colleagues are late that means I can’t go home until they arrive. Recently they were half an hour late and now I’m wondering whether I should ask to be paid for the half an hour extra or would you leave it? I don’t want them to start taking advantage

Of course you should be paid. Presumably the person who was late won’t get paid for the time they weren’t working so it’s no skin off your employer’s nose in any event, but you had to stay so you should definitely be paid. It is totally unreasonable you should be out of pocket.

Thanks! I really feel awkward about bringing it up but it’s still half an hour past when I was supposed to finish. I don’t want to seem petty

If you work overtime it shoukd be paid, otherwise you fall below nmw for those hours worked and that is illegal.
