How do I open this type of packaging (phone cable charger)

Apologies if I’m being really thick I’m very sleep deprived and have a very early flight I’m still packing for tomorrow morning.

I’m losing my mind how do I break the cover on this Primark phone cable charger (I don’t know what it’s called the round hard plastic thing). Will attach picture…

I’ve tried scissors but they’re not strong enough to cut through fully and already hurt my fingers doing this

They are cable ties. If your scissors aren’t sharp enough, you could use a knife (carefully!). Slip it under the tie in the middle and pull it upwards, careful not to nick the charger cable

Wire cutters if your scissors aren't sharp enough or as pp said a knife, but be so careful 😅

Have you tried swearing at it? 😀

OhBettyCalmDown · 07/05/2026 05:54

Scissors usually do the trick with those. Nail scissors can be good too as they’re usually thinner

TerfOnATrain · 07/05/2026 05:58

You need better scissors, I would be inclined to leave the cable for another day and buy one at the airport, which will likely be better packaged or the retail assistant can untie for you.

Nail clippers!

DaveWatts · 07/05/2026 06:27

You can stick a screwdriver (or similar strong thin piece of metal) through and twist it around until it snaps.

I agree.
Give it a good round of fucks, works every time.
😉😁😁.

Put on a pair of gloves when you use the scissors so you can use more force without hurting your fingers, have you got other scissors you could try. That sort of packaging is really annoying, it's also often used on kitchen utensils.

DandelionClockSeeds · 07/05/2026 07:00

Scissors are the default in this house for cable ties.
It won't help you for niw, but id buy some better scissors for future.

Pliers are also possible, but work better when there is something solid to twist against - so not in this case

You need to use the hinge end of the scissors, not the tip. Force the bottom blade of the scissors through the gap as far as it will go, then close them. You might have to do it a couple of times.
