Why are school buses still idling outside the local high school?

Given the cost of fuel I'm surprised the school bus drivers are still idling their engines outside the local high school...

Never understood this, parked right where all the kids come in, too.

Environmental concerns clearly not a thing either.

This is just a vent to get this out of my head & because I expect complaining directly to the bus company would get me labeled as a whinging woman.

Because the drivers are lazy and ignorant.
Absolutely infuriating.
See also leaving cars running while popping out to get kids from houses.
Or outside sports activities for 30 bloody mins etc.
Rude and entitled.
Everyone knows exhaust fumes cause asthma and cancer. Turn it off.

It’s illegal to sit in a vehicle and leave it idling when you’re parked. Only excusable if you’re stuck in traffic. Even then, there’s a residential road in Bristol notorious for gridlock, where there are official signs to turn off your engine when not moving!

School buses are often old bangers and can be difficult or impossible to restart, we were often told not to switch them off.
