What can I buy with this?

Take it to the penny arcade at the seaside OP. You might make your fortune 💰

LindorDoubleChoc · 05/05/2026 22:37

Yes! Just to clarify, this isn't my only money. Maybe a bag of crisps?

Half an hour parking in my village is 60p.

I'm sorry to say that I don't look at prices, but it wouldn't buy much. Would it stretch to a little packet of tissues?

beasmithwentworth · 05/05/2026 22:53

Depending on where you live you might like to take yourself off out for half a sofa and lime. Though you might just have to settle for half a soda if anywhere near London. Fun times ✅

FortyFacedFuckers · 05/05/2026 22:55

What I call 10P crisps, you know the ones like onion rings, bikers, space raiders etc no idea how much they cost these days

notanothernamechangemother · 05/05/2026 23:22

A bar of the cheapest Aldi milk or dark chocolate is 65p at the moment. Its quite tasty, no palm in it, which is a bonus.

DontShoutInMyEarholeTracey · 05/05/2026 23:33

A packet of Chewits maybe. Dunno how much they are these days but you might get 1pence change.

Mclaren10 · 05/05/2026 23:35

30 minutes parking in a town.
A tin of beans I think.

In honour of the the irritating "£50 on food to feed a family of four for a week thread" last week - I looked up the Aldi website. Lidl was almost impossible to use.

500g spaghetti 28p. Or 500g gluten free spaghetti or 500g gluten free fusilli = 29p

1 packet cheese sauce mix. Or peppercorn sauce or parsley sauce. Obviously most people would pick cheese but the options are out there = 29p

That leaves 12p. For a tiny lone tomato or mushroom or carrot or something.

Or even maybe a banana for dessert if you don't mind the gluten in your pasta and have an extra penny.

I have assumed you have no seasonings at all. Not even salt and pepper. You have water and a heat source. You are going to one reasonably easily found British supermarket shop, not chasing all over town. You are not, "Foraging" or stealing condiments from Macdonalds or any of that nonsense.

All prices are real prices not special offer. The cheese sauce is said to be 10p cheaper but that seems to be a permanent adjustment that's been there months. If it does prove to be temporary, we'll just have to save the extra 2p for next time and be glad.

If you you would like something more natural tasting than the cheese sauce, they also have extra thick yellow cream for 29p. But you would really have to squish some flavour out of your tiny vegetable to get the juices going for your pasta sauce and probably forgo your banana it that case.

Not haute cuisine but edible and even gluten free and vegetarian if needs be. I doubt that there's much rennet in a 29p cheese sauce.

Take that Jack Monroe.

*Sorry about typos. I can't edit. I don't pay for membership. To no surprise to anybody, I suppose.

You don't have to pay to edit.

just use the 3 dots at the top of your post, but it's time limited.

I'm the red headed step child, as it happens, but I kind of came to the expression backwards. I had a friend from Tennessee who said it in the context of an unfairly overlooked thing.

"Filet-o-fish is a bit of a red headed stepchild, but I like them"

"Don't you go talking to me like a red headed stepchild."

There's a cocktail called a Red Headed Step Child and so on. It's a funny phrase these days, probably with a darker meaning originally.

He just said it so often that I realised that I was, technically speaking, A red headed stepchild myself. I have red hair and my dad remarried.

I think of it as a kind of Calamity Jane, old fashioned Western reference. Red headed stepchildren might be a bit wild because of their uncertain status etc.

I've never heard of them, but the cocktails look interesting! Might have to try ordering one next time im out!

They havent had this in stock in my two aldis for ages. It's what my autistic teen eats and I buy it in great quantities normally.
I'm having to spend a fortune on dairy milk as he won't eat dairy fine. 😒

StainedGlasses · 06/05/2026 05:50

Two limes or lemons.
