Will my NHS dentist know if I see another?

So I’m currently waiting for a new crown to be fitted but it’s a 9 week wait as the nhs dentist is part time .
In the meantime I have booked an appt with a different nhs dentist in the hope of getting the work done sooner .
Will the original dentist be notified of this ?
My fear being the second dentist has a similar wait and I’ll be no better or even worse off if I end up losing my original appointment .
I have tried contacting the practice to find out wait times but frustratingly cannot get through to a human. Looking at their website the number of nhs dentists and days covered is greater though .
Can anyone offer any insight into how the system works please ?

I don't think they are connected in any way, but hopefully someone who works in one can clarify.

Are you registered with both dentists ? I’m surprised as in our area there are waiting lists for NHS dentists. So from my experience it would be very difficult to do what you’ve described.
However Im not sure of the rules if what you are saying is ‘allowed’ so hopefully this will bump your thread.

There is no register in the same way as there is for your GP, but they’ll know when you turn up with a crown on your tooth!

Does an NHS dentist kick you off their list if you have private work done then?

Has the first dentist had to order the crown especially?

I wonder if it’s same practise?

Won’t the new dentist contact the old dentist to request notes, etc? At which point the old dentist will off list you. That’s what would happen with GPs so I would have assumed a similar system

Have you already had the work done to prepp tye tooth and have impressions? You're just waiting to have the crown glued in?

If so you'll need two appointments with dentist number 2 and might not be finished any quicker.

And dentist number 1 will have paid the lab to do the work so won't be very impressed when you arrive with another crown on the tooth!

Just to clarify apart from a temp cover on the tooth no work has begun. 9 week wait for the prep appt then another appt 2 weeks later for the fitting.
If I was to proceed with the work at the 2nd dentist I wouldn’t return to the 1st practice. I’ve had numerous issues with them this year .In fact the problem with the crown has arose since it was dislodged during an extraction to the adjacent tooth .

Nope doesn't happen in dental care like that. Records dont move. Probably because you can see what's been done a lot of the time

Where are you finding two bloody NHS dentists?! And can you please send me one? I have cancer, am entitled to free NHS dental care for life, need a crown and there are no NHS dentists available within 300 miles. I just need a dentist. 😩 Because I can’t work and can’t afford private dentistry.

Sorry for your situation , what a mess this system is .

Hypothetically… if this is the case you’re entitled to emergency NHS dental work… toothache is impossible to prove

Very impressed you’ve found two NHS dentists.
