Hi all I’m sorry to ask as my brain can’t work it out- I work in a school but Monday is my day off- my husband who works in a totally different environment thinks I’m entitled to a day off but I’m sure I don’t!! Send brain help 😩

I’m assuming if you have a fixed day off then you are less than full time? If so then no, you won’t be entitled to a day off as you annual leave will be pro-rata based on your hours, which for someone working in the education system will be fixed to when the half term/breaks are.

So in theory that bank holiday has already been/will be utilised in the half/term breaks.

Many school staff will say “we’re unpaid in the holidays,” thats not technically accurate unless they are genuinely casual or hourly workers with no retained pay between terms.

Bank holidays are usually built in to the package at source for school jobs.

When I went part time a friend told me to always work Mondays so I got the Bank Holidays. You are not entitled to another day in lieu.
