Impact of one year off NHS pension scheme - how to calculate.

Have also posted in Money Matters section:

I’m about to take a year off work, unpaid. I have the option to keep paying. I wouid pay my contributions only for the first 6 months, then wouid need to pay mine plus the employers after this. Can’t pay in arrears, which I assume means I’ll be paying it on zero pay so will get no tax benefit.
im trying to find info / a calculator online to work out the impact of not paying for a year (or 6 months or whatever) but it’s proving quite challenging! Can anyone help me? I’d like the impact of not paying, plus info on what I would need to pay for 0-6m then 7-12m. Ideally I’d like to keep paying but not sure I can afford it.
thanks!

I think this will be pretty difficult to calculate. Ir will depend on which scheme you are in, how much impact McCloud remedy might have. The current 2015 is career average accruing 1/54 for each year so you might be able to roughly calculate using your current salary but will also depend on how old you are now and how much longer you intend to stay in the scheme.

Thanks for answering. I’m thinking there must be somewhere that I can input all that info and it’ll come out with some useful numbers?

I asked AI a lot of complicated pension questions after putting in assumptions about McCloud and retirement age and it was really helpful. It will never be exact.
