Do you ever cut yourself? The tools that I see online look just basically like a blade with a handle. Is there anything to protect you from cutting yourself? I’d like to have a go at this but I’m scared that I’ll look like I’ve had a run-in with Edward Scissorhands.

I don’t, but I did have it done professionally years ago. I had to sign a long disclaimer about the risks of getting cut etc. All was fine, fortunately. But I’m like you, I’d be terrified to do it myself!

I actually did it myself for the first time yesterday. I’m not very good at these sorts of things (often cut my ankles when shaving) but I managed to only cut myself once near my ear cos I turned the blade to the wrong angle. It didn’t hurt, bled a minuscule amount and I can’t see the cut today. If I can do it then anyone can!

I am extremely clumsy and was worried about cutting myself, but found that as long as you use oil and take it slowly to get the angle right, it's more straightforward than you think.

Its amazing. No cuts here!

I've always wondered about this as I'm very blonde but tan well, so look like a numptie half the year with bright white hairs.

Never, you just have to be careful.

tsmainsqueeze · 03/05/2026 20:02

I do it quite regularly and i cut my face on my cheek bone , i don't know how i did it ! but it's very rare to cut yourself if you do it carefully .
I use the light from my phone and angle it to highlight the peach fuzz ,pull skin taught then shave downwards at an angle.
Superdrugs razors are very good as are wilkinsons swords , cheapo 'dupe' ones not so good.

I find the angle of the blade youd have to try very hard to cut yourself

Thanks everyone. This is broadly reassuring! Though I am quite cack-handed! Will give it a go!

"Dermaplane" = shaving your face. Men have done it for centuries. It can't be that hard.

They do cut themselves a lot though 🤣
