Any musical theatre music lovers here?
What do you think of the new chess album? It wasn’t a musical I knew much about apart from the well know songs, but I listened to it as I’m a fan of Aaron Tveits singing voice. Its great- very reminiscent of JCS.
And Nicolas Christopher’s voice is fantastic. How on earth does he hold that note for so long towards the end?

Huge Musicals fan here ...along with my adult autistic son; we go to everything!
My all time favourite will always be JCSS (seen it so so many times and am going again in August) but the most recent production of Fiddler on the Roof was so brilliant it now comes in a close second. We have seen probably well over 100 musicals now!

Not seen Hamilton ... not my thing, and I don't want to watch Rent again as so depressing!!!! Anything else I'm up for :)

I love Chess! I saw it in the eighties as a child and again when it toured a while back. I agree that those performances in the new revival are great!

Rain134 · 03/05/2026 22:09

Love JCSS, ever since I was a kid.
I'm not too fussed on Hamilton either, its just a bit too long for me.
Chess wasn't a musical that I'd really listened much too, but the recent revival has put it firmly on my playlist.
What next on your list to watch? Due to various reasons, I cant really get to see much anymore, but I think the summer Les Mis shows at the Albert Hall has a fantastic cast. I'm just hoping they do an official recording.

I love musicals. Favourite theatre show soundtrack is The Lion King but also Mamma Mia (big ABBA fan).

Favourite film musical soundtracks are The Greatest Showman, Matilda and Annie.

SockQueen · 03/05/2026 22:30

Les Mis, always, for me. The stage show rather than the big arena concerts. I like Chess but haven't heard the new release.

Recently went to see the latest version of Oliver! in the West End, with Simon Lipkin as Fagin, and absolutely loved it, highly recommend!

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 03/05/2026 22:30

I’m adding in Oliver. Brilliant songs and the current production in London is brilliant.

Rain134 · 03/05/2026 22:53

Oh was Simon Lipkin the Fagin who was on the BBC Big night at the Musicals? He was so good. And who doesn't love Mamma Mia and Abba.
Has anyone seem the Greatest Showman on in Bristol at the moment? What's it like? Haven't even seen any promo clips for it.
