Short-term AmEx Gold account just to use the airport lounge passes?

Usually when I'm flying I am on very early flights, but within the next few months I have a couple of late afternoon /evening flights.

I'm considering applying for an Amex gold card just so I can get my four airport lounge passes, and then cancel the account before the year is up so I incur no charges.

Is this a daft plan? I'm coeliac so eating in airports is really hard for me, but I know the lounges have good GF practices. I figure it would also alleviate the issue of arriving fairly late at our destination and needing to find something to eat.

I'm good at keeping on top of dates and would cancel in time.

I can't see it being an issue. Sometimes applying for a cc can cause your credit score to dip briefly, would only be an issue if your score was already poor and you needed to look for mortgages or loans in the v near future.

Airport lounges are generally pretty rubbish.

So I’d say probably not.

I’ve done that several times. Get the free card for the year and use the lounge pass. However it’s worth noting that you can’t pre book a lounge slot with the pass so you might not get in. I’ve had that happen before.

I agree, although some airports may be better than others. The food has been awful in the ones I have tried.

Depends on the airport in terms of whether you will get in the lounge. I have an Amex gold card and got it for the points offer (converted them to about £300 in gift vouchers) and the lounge passes were the most useful at my local regional airport as hardly anyone in there. We travel quite often through Schipol and only managed to get in the lounge on one occasion.

Our mortgage renewal is Nov 2027, so a good while off. My credit score is 1000, no issues.

Hmm something to think about. We are flying from Edinburgh both times. I'll do some investigating.
