Please help! Passport office are denying losing my original document.

Passport office has lost my original document and are denying it.

They are saying the document they have returned is what I sent (I sent handwritten green A3ish sized birth certificate, they sent an A4 pink scanned handwritten one back full of ink smudges). I of course didn’t photograph my document before I sent it, thinking that would not be sensible to store photos of documents on my phone.

Any tips on what I can do please? Thank you.

Just order a new copy. Aside from sentimental value it doesnt matter.

Is it somebody else’s birth certificate they’ve sent back?

What name is on the document that you have received?

It’s my name on it/looks like my document. It just looks like a photocopy (smudged ink on it, different creases where it’s been folded, faded writing as if it’s been scanned, paper feels different). The man on the phone said it could have been scanned and then the original lost but then backtracked and said their files say it’s the same one. I have an image of the original, it looks different. But they are saying it’s the same 😫 Guess I’ll just have to order myself a certified copy so I can actually use one and forget the sentiment of the original, because I don’t think anywhere would accept it as real.

They accused me of not sending my expired passport when they had lost it. They had all the other documents that were in the same envelope but not the passport. So I had to report it as lost

it was always a copy, that’s how birth certificates work. The original is an entry in a register. If you think what you’ve got back is a copy they’ve made themself then just order another copy next time you need one.
