Hi looking for any advice/experience with:

9 year old going out with friends in safe local area but would like DC to be able to contact me if needed or for me to contact them eg to come home or approve going to friends house etc. Also would like tracker for extra peace of mind. DC said a few friends have watches - do these need contracts. Are any recommended? Don’t want to spend much or have a monthly commitment ideally.

13 year old with iPhone. Happy with use Apple family etc. However, DC likes to cycle and run and prefers to leave phone (they’ve tried the arm band things for phone) but I prefer them to have so they can call if any issues like puncture. The DC also likes to record cycles and runs. A watch would be idea that links to phone and could receive calls or WhatsApp messages plus record their exercise. Not got budget for an Apple Watch but is there anything similar that again isn’t too expensive?
I have googled but it would be good to hear some real life experience. TIA
