Ulcer or cold sore?

my four year-old has woke up with this on his lip this morning. I can’t tell whether it’s the start of a cold sore or if it’s just an ulcer. It’s not fully on the inside of his mouth, which is why I’m not convinced it’s an ulcer. He had been poorly over the weekend with a sickness book, so has been rundown in general not sure if that has anything to do with it. He’s never had a cold sore before, but my family have always suffered with them which is why I’m a bit worried and I suffered with them terribly when I was younger and I just really didn’t want the same for him. Does anyone No, whether it looks more like being an also or a cold sore?

If you zoom in there’s a hair in it. It’s very white, have they bitten their lip?

My coldsores start out as a small itchy red spot, then develop into a cluster of small red spots which get bigger. The skin around them looks a bit redder too. They blister and if they burst you see yellow plasma. The lip in the photo doesn't look at all like that

His lip looks like a patch of white, which looks more like what you get in a mouth that's healing after a wound. I'd guess he bit his lip a day or two ago

If you're concerned pop in to speak to your local pharmacist

I'm not sure as there wasn’t abrhint there at all when he went to bed, he just woke up with it. This is it this morning. He’s never bitten his lip before but it could be posisble, I really hope that’s what it is anyway but it looks more yellow today, does this still look like it could just be a healing spot?

Take him to see the pharmacist, they'll be able to tell you either way.
