I know no one can answer, but what's the most likely?

I was at A&E with my Mum last night, and let a distressed couple with a tiny baby go in front of me in the queue. Maybe 2/3 months old.

The baby was asleep in his Dad's arms, peaceful, but a bit too peaceful, not stirring at all. He had a good colour, not pale, quite the opposite in fact, looking almost suntanned. He didn't have a tan, but a slight orangy tinge iyswim.

Mum is a worry, she's still there, but I can't get this family out of my mind.

Jaundice? This can affect feeding and gives babies a sun tanned look

Please don't add to this families worries by speculating what might be wrong with their precious baby or asking for suggestions, you and your mum need to leave them in peace

Jaundice OP. Very normal in newborns but very serious at other times. Hopefully the little one will recover well with treatment.

I'm really not going to do anything that disturbs them. Hopefully they're all safely back home.

Some sort of condition of the liver. Newborn jaundice is the most obvious but that’s usually very early on. There are other conditions like biliary atresia that might cause jaundice, though I suppose it could happen with any sort of liver injury.
