i have 2 cats and I’m going on holiday in june
I have paid for a lady to visit twice a day from cat in a flat (I think it’s called ) but I’m still worried
I was going to give my friend a spare key and for whatever reason ..if they sitter didn’t turn up then I could ask her to pop in.
She drives but it’s about a 11 min drive to my house from hers.
Is this cheeky to ask?
I mean I’m thinking the worst and probably won’t need this but I was thinking about doing this as a back up plan.
Maybe even leave a key each with two friends.

I went in to a friend's house once a day to feed & check on their hamster, so I don't see why I wouldn't do the same for a cat.

My friend was so stressed, poor love, that anything to make her go on holiday and rest, was worth the effort.

Why not ask a teenager on your street? Their mum will remind them if need be.

RampantIvy · 28/04/2026 12:27

Of course I would. I love cats.

I go daily to see my friend's cat when she is away. It's about a ten minute drive.

Catnanna · 28/04/2026 12:31

I always use a cattery as that way I know my cat is safe and I’m not reliant on anyone popping in. Having said that there is no harm in asking a friend to pop in as a back up in case the sitter doesn’t make it or just as an extra visitor to the cat.

EmeraldRoulette · 28/04/2026 12:31

I've done this

Not as the person who is in charge - but just like an extra visit so the cats see someone they know.

DramaAlpaca · 28/04/2026 12:31

I did exactly this for a friend twice a day for six weeks once. I offered, she was delighted and so was I because I love cats.

PygmyOwl · 28/04/2026 12:32

I get my friends' teenagers to do this (and pay them!).

MidnightPatrol · 28/04/2026 12:32

Yes of course

Overtheatlantic · 28/04/2026 12:32

Always good to have a backup. I’ve used cat in a flat and have found them very good!

TomatoSandwiches · 28/04/2026 12:33

You wouldn't have to ask me twice 😊

1vandal2 · 28/04/2026 12:34

I would

Me too! I would be very happy to be asked.

Elanol · 28/04/2026 12:50

I would. I have the time and love cats. 🐱

underthehawthorntree · 28/04/2026 12:51

Yes of course without any hesitation

WinterFrogs · 28/04/2026 12:54

I would ( and have)

AlbieJiggered · 28/04/2026 12:55

If the cats asked me to I would.

inkyspells · 28/04/2026 12:56

Thanks everyone
I love my two like crazy and worry myself sick when I have to leave them
so having a back up plan is a life saver for my overthinking brain

I pay my friend’s older teen son to look after the chickens and cats when I’m away. He’s a farmers son so very competent and reliable.

ConnieHeart · 28/04/2026 12:58

Yes, give her a spare key incase the sitter's key is lost. But they wouldn't need to go in unless needed

I am the same with my pets.

notacooldad · 28/04/2026 13:00

Absolutely, I would!

HelpMeGetThrough · 28/04/2026 13:03

As long as they weren’t like my brothers when I looked after them. Always came in at night, until 1 didn’t. I stayed up for ages, but had to give up about 4am, as I needed sleep.

In she strolls at 9am the next morning absolutely fine, to which I said, where the hell have you been. I got a look of “Who the hell do you think you are, now feed me you peasant!!”.

Sprinkleofspice · 28/04/2026 13:06

Yes I would do it as a back up or just to check on them a couple of times. But I don’t think I’d do everyday without payment - seen too many threads on here about CFery 🙈

MeAndLicorice · 28/04/2026 13:07

I guess it depends how busy you are.

If it’s an 11 minute drive then a bit of time with the cat and a drive home that prob takes an hour out of their day.

At the moment I wouldn’t be able to do that, so if one of my friends asked I’d decline and also wonder if they ever listen to me as it should be obvious I can’t do that!

But obviously you probably know whether your friend is really busy or not.
