I'd bloody love to be a fly on the wall in the private rooms of Charles and Camilla to listen in to their conversations after a day of rictus grins with Trump

I’ve been watching the coverage of the US visit and honestly, I am exhausted just looking at them.

I would give anything to be a fly on the wall when they finally retreat to Blair House, kick off their shoes, and pour a very large G&T. Can you imagine the debrief after a day of Trump and his acolytes?

  • You just know Charles is rolling his eyes over that shooting 'incident' at the dinner. "Honestly, Camilla, the way he carries on, you’d think he’d single-handedly fought off a battalion rather than... well, whatever that theatrical display was."
  • Watching Charles, an actual environmentalist, having to nod politely while Trump explains 'tremendous' bees to him must have been a test of patience greater than the Coronation.

They look so professional in public, but there must be a point where they just look at each other and say, "WTAF". Or do they have to stay 'on' just in case the room is bugged with 'beautiful, golden' microphones?

You’re forgetting, he cut in front and walked in front of her at some high+profile inspection of troops on a UK state visit.

OMG that was absolutely cringeworthy and vile to the diminutive QEII who Trump just cut across like a massive mountain blocking the light. Nobody in the world with any decorum or good breeding would treat the legend that was the Queen like that .... except Trump.

I bet they go to bed and sleep all day for a week after this.

Can't say I'd blame them it must be mentally and physically exhausting.

GloiredeDijon · 29/04/2026 07:07

After all the criticism which has been thrown at both Charles and Camilla over the years and more recently I think this really shows their worth to our country.

All the more so when considering Charles has cancer.

I’m proud of their representation of the UK in the cesspit which is the current US.

countrygirl99 · 29/04/2026 07:10

I imagine them sitting in bed WhatsApping comments and memes to each other in case the room's bugged.

They are doing a cracking job do far. It might be Brian’s finest hour.

It must be agonising. I’ve been having the same thoughts as you OP.

Loved this! Good old predictive text! “ Brian’s Finest Hour” 🤣🤣🤣

PermanentTemporary · 29/04/2026 07:14

I wonder if you have to enter almost a different mental state to cope with this sort of thing. Otherwise you’d inevitably screw up at some point and visibly roll your eyes or something.

ZenNudist · 29/04/2026 07:28

Oh god the epstein connection. What an elephant in the room!

maftaz · 29/04/2026 07:28

I hope that's the end of these reciprocal visits now. Enough of us having to pretend we (Britain) love Trump so much that we will send our King and Queen to visit him. Makes me feel ill.

As acting goes, they (K+C) deserve an Oscar. But no more please.

They should go to the Berlaymont next and apologise for leaving the EU. That's much more relevant to us now and would drive Trump mad. Win win.

More likely writing notes that they burn after reading or flush down the toilet.

If I was paid what they are, had the life of luxury they have, it would be easy to do this. I honestly do not get all the ‘how does Charles do it, ‘amazing speech’ etc - it’s all written for them, they just have to stand there, make small talk, eat nice food, drink great wine. They are told where to go when, clothes chosen and laid out. It’s really not difficult! And after this they’re going on their jollies I believe!

I don’t think they should have gone, we’ve already had difficult comments from Trump which he knows Charles can’t openly counteract. I think this makes the UK look desperate.

Roads · 29/04/2026 08:04

I'm not sure all the money in the world or luxury lifestyle would prevent my face from giving away my true feelings in the moment with an involuntary eye roll or sigh.

Also having a speech written for you doesn't mean it's easy to deliver it. We've all been to those meetings I'm sure, with shit guest speakers where someone could make even the most exciting and well written speech sound dull as dishwater.

Didn’t Camilla do so @PermanentTemporarywhen DT visited the UK in 2019, giving a very subtle wink.

ApricotTulip · 29/04/2026 08:08

Melania smiled far more when she was with Camilla and some young people than she ever does when with her husband. It was nice to see her look happy

No different from what other countries have to do such as the Irish PM on St Patrick's day. Trump was slagging off NATO to him.

It goes without saying that I loathe T, but I'm also no fan of our own contributions to this shindig. I don't think C&C are the bastions of humanity. Why would I suddenly be thinking that because they're British they're going to be experiencing/suffering T in the same way that I would. They must meet bastards all the time. My assumption/prejudice is that a lot of the very wealthy and powerful people had to cause some mayhem for others in order to get that way. So, I would imagine that T and C&C have more in common with each other than any one of them has with me.

Recklessismymiddlename · 29/04/2026 08:16

Of course the U.K. is desperate @1apenny2apenny have been seen that Brexit vote. Only some are still too blind to see it.

Unless the tories can get their act together and stop a reform landslide. Certainly in my area. I’m a labour voter always have been, in my 60’s, but for the first time ever, in upcoming local elections I’m thinking of voting Tory, to keep reform out.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 29/04/2026 08:17

I reckon as DC, the royals play games like smiling in a relaxed friendly manner while muttering the rudest words they can think of! First person to gasp or giggle loses.

LaurenBacal · 29/04/2026 08:17

I don’t think Charles had that speech written for him. It has his stamp all over it. Shame Trump doesn’t use a speech writer though. He only seems to know four words .

Nitgel · 29/04/2026 08:26

it was cringe when Trump was speaking about his mother watching Charles as a young prince.

OvernightBloats · 29/04/2026 08:33

Must be hard to keep a straight face with some of the rubbish Trump spouts. That takes some skill to maintain for an hour, let alone days!

Charles and Camilla are being treated to the best of everything. The red carpet treatment on steroids. So I don't think the trip will be a hardship for them.

I think they enjoy the sycophantic adulation that Trump is spewing!

I'm not sure anything you paid me could persuade me to stand in Trump's close proximity, let alone shake his sweaty hands and pretend to be enjoying myself. The man really makes my skin crawl. As for having to keep looking pleasant and making conversation several times over irrespective of how you may be feeling, no thanks.

I really can't see why they shouldn't have a break afterwards, either. He's 77 with cancer, she's 78. How many of us would be working in those circumstances?

ApricotTulip · 29/04/2026 08:40

Have any countries turned down invitations from Trump yet?

Just seen Charles has referenced the importance of Nato, the defence of Ukraine and the climate crisis in his speech. It'll be interesting to see if Trump bites back. Trump was slagging off Nato to the Irish PM recently.

deeahgwitch · 29/04/2026 08:46

There were many in Ireland who had serious misgivings about the Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) visiting the White House on St.Patrick’s Day.
Many were against the trip.
