Ultrasonic Barking Deterrents for Neighbour’s Dogs

DevilsKitchen · 27/04/2026 20:16

I’ve decided to train my neighbour’s dogs seeing as they clearly can’t be bothered.

We are trying to move but it’s not going well so the chances are we will have a newborn in his house and I won’t have them woken up by the incessant yapping.

I want to buy one of those ultra sonic bark deterrents - preferably the kind you put in your garden but a handheld button from the comfort of my bed will work fine. I want to get one that actually works though.

Has anyone done this? What one did you get?

Can someone explain to me how the poster can make it affect someone else’s property? Don’t they just l cover your own garden/outside space

OP watch out you are not the one getting reported

They emit sounds/high pitched squeals at high volume in all directions and can be heard in all directions in the same way a loud speaker can only the frequency of the sound is too high pitched for adults to hear but children and animals can.
Basically the op is trying to hurt every child and animals on her street and neighbouring streets just because she doesn't want to deal with her neighbours legally

OP - you have my sympathy - moved a year ago not realising that 2 barking dogs lived next door - they are terrible and the owners do nothing - just let them bark - I’m an animal lover and have had dogs who would immediately be bought in if they barked - they soon learnt. I’m dreading this summer as I love my garden but whenever I go out there they bark - it’s just not on

If these devices make the dogs bark more maybe there is case forusing them all the time when the neighbors are IN, that THEY have to suffer the noise, rather than only the poor OP while the neighbors are out..

The ones from Amazon are fabulous and they stop dogs barking and also cats shitting on your lawn!! And no they aren’t cruel or whatever nonsense that drama lama came out with 🤣😂😂

Distress. Give me peace. And you can't train a dog to stop barking

You can train a dog to bark an absolutely minimal amount. You also have to adjust routine and environment and ensure sufficient enrichment and exercise. Dogs trust have tips on their website. To pretend you "can't" is either lazy or ignorant if you have a barking dog. Owners just can't be bothered to put the significant time and work in and prefer to shrug and say they can't do anything.

I’d be very careful with the ultrasonic devices around a baby. Even though they say humans can’t hear them, I always could as a child and through my teens-it’s quite common.
I thinks you have more chance of waking the baby with the device than the dogs barking.

Noise pollution is a very real health problem and one that doesn't get nearly enough attention.

I've lived in flats where I have had drug dealers next door to me. People threatening to poison my pets and burn my flat down. And people partying all night long for weeks on end.

So you surely sympathise with the OP and sypport her efforts to eliminate the noise pollution?

No I don't. I don't agree that dogs should suffer and be caused stress.

pollymere · 29/04/2026 21:48

I have a quality of hearing that means I can hear cat scarers and other allegedly ultrasonic items. I usually suffer from a high-pitched whine in my ears or sometimes I can't hear it but I get an immense pain in my ears.

It makes it difficult for me to enjoy my garden. And ironically my cat seems to not suffer at all and continues to go into their garden...

And you don’t care that your cat Is a nuisance to your neighbours and prevents them from enjoying their garden… the irony 😂😂

Sounds fair. Now neither of you get to enjoy your gardens.

For kids or dogs?

DevilsKitchen · 04/05/2026 09:32

This morning at 8:39am on a fucking BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY she sent her fucking dog and another one who was staying with them apparently out into the garden to bark and growl at each other. Then her child went out there and got in the middle and so she is also now shouting her fucking head off as well. I HATE dogs and I HATE dog people.

Our wheelie bins get emptied at 6.15am on Mondays. Including BH Mondays. It gives me the rage as there is an estate behind us and the noise of bins being emptied and the bin lorry reversing is impossible to sleep through. I feel your pain! I was not a happy bunny this morning.

DerBlaueReiter · 04/05/2026 10:19

You said you were relocating and I suggest you move someplace like Türkiye or Gaza where the population shares your values of hating animal lovers and dogs and in fact have active dog (and people) eradication programs.

Most Europeans appreciate our 40,000 year history with our most loyal domesticated companion. The occasional boisterous neighbour is not going to change this no matter where in Western civilisation you go.

It sounds like it makes no difference, really, that it’s a “bank holiday” to you since your sole activity is monitoring the adjacent yard. Maybe find some meaningful activities to take your mind off what other people are doing, which in this case sounds like a normal day off with kids and pets.

fundamentallyauthentic · 04/05/2026 10:26

Have you had any offers yet for your house?

Yep we had the neighbours kids shouting in the back garden at 8:30 this morning. But, I I live amongst other people, it’s almost like if you don’t live in the middle of the moor you accept the noise of others - )note don’t move to the middle of the moor some pony will probably upset you then!) live in the middle of the Sahara I guess

Absolutely hilarious take

My dog is more important to me than your baby. Funny if they grew up loving dogs and you ended up getting one.

It’s not cruel - it’s a bit of noise used in dog training.

They are horrible things, our thick ndn put one in his garden to stop occasional cats and foxes coming onto his lawn, it terrified our cat who is too scared to go out anymore.
