Ultrasonic Barking Deterrents for Neighbour’s Dogs

I’ve decided to train my neighbour’s dogs seeing as they clearly can’t be bothered.

We are trying to move but it’s not going well so the chances are we will have a newborn in his house and I won’t have them woken up by the incessant yapping.

I want to buy one of those ultra sonic bark deterrents - preferably the kind you put in your garden but a handheld button from the comfort of my bed will work fine. I want to get one that actually works though.

Has anyone done this? What one did you get?

Take the dog where? How much barking before they are removed? Where’s the funding coming from? You’re right, these threads are good for a laugh.

To a kennels, maybe a charity place. The dog owner would be obliged to pay a suitable fine to go to the kennel for its welfare.

How much barking? Say 10 minutes.

You couldn’t prove it though, it could be for the local foxes!

It doesn't matter why you are using it if it is causing pain or distress in your neighbours pets or children and its reported to the council you will be ordered to remove it if you dont you will get an asbo, if you still continue to use it you will be in crt facing contempt of crt charges.
I'm not joking about this I've seen it happen. Think about how having an asbo on your record will harm your future.

Ok cool. Let us know if you need help getting this law passed.

I’m autistic and very noise sensitive. Interestingly different dog barks affect me on different levels. One side next door has a spaniel with a low bark, doesn’t bother me much. My mums dog doesn’t bother me at all. But my other neighbour has this little toy dog which yaps at such a high pitch that it causes me genuinely distress. I’ve never spoken to them because I’m aware it’s my issue rather than theirs. In their case their dog is outside having fun barking away rather than being shut out all day. I sometimes wear those soundproof headphones to block it out if it’s going on a while. I think we’re all probably a little unaware as to what we might be doing to upset our neighbours.

The entitlement of dog owners never fails to amaze me 😟 and here we are with these comments.

This morning at 8:39am on a fucking BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY she sent her fucking dog and another one who was staying with them apparently out into the garden to bark and growl at each other. Then her child went out there and got in the middle and so she is also now shouting her fucking head off as well. I HATE dogs and I HATE dog people.

Edited

being woken up by constant dog barking is very stressful OP, I can understand your frustration.

The ones where people are saying the boxes that emit a high pitched noise are cruel and will affect children, wildlife and may not have the desired impact?

I love (most dogs) and cats and sheep, cows, horses - pretty much any animal. But I am sick to death of the insane "fur baby" crowd who work out their shitty psychological problems with their weaponised pets. I'm sick of their shit being hung on trees in little plastic bags, sick of their barking and snarling, tired of them in cafes being petted by staff who then make your coffee without washing hands. Sick of people talking about "my little boy" jfc - it's not a child!
Honestly OP - I feel your pain, get the device and use it.

But none of these things are the animals fault are they, these devices are really horrible and frightening, if you like animals why would you think it's OK to use them causing pain and distress, it won't just be the ndn dogs that are affected.

MrsVBS · 04/05/2026 12:44

I don’t know anything about deterrents but a continual barking dog is awful. My neighbours daughter stays occasionally and her dog barks continuously, I’ve spoken to them and the mum agreed it’s a pain, but it still happens although nowhere near as much, I feel for you.

I honestly think you need help if you say you hate all dogs and you hate all dog people just because your horrible neighbour has a barking dog

I have rarely seen a thread that's more me me me than this one - you won't report your neighbour. You just want to use a horrible device to frighten her dog

What the hell? My neighbours kids are are a lot more annoying than any of the days (or other kids) do you also think they should be taken into care?

But this thread is not about kids - dog people always do this, start making the comparisons to children. It really is tiresome. Children are PEOPLE who have to learn how to behave. Dogs are unnecessary nuisances

It’s not “just because” though - I hate dogs and dog people because of many negative experiences and the endemic misanthropy.

No they aren't. The fact that you think dogs should be wiped off the face of the earth apart from a few exceptions is really worrying. It's more worrying because you want kids and you'll pass your fears onto them

I've never had a dog in my life. I don't want to see them wiped out

PrincessofWells · 04/05/2026 14:05

HangingOver · 27/04/2026 20:59

Don't be an asshole neighbour.

Clearly you are someone who has never been woken up every morning by a neighbours dog, and have it bark all through the day randomly as well. It's the dog owners who are the arsehole neighbours by failing to properly train their dog. It isn't difficult, just takes patience and a little time.

I had drug dealers live next door to me for a decade and who threatened to burn my house down and poison my pets. They chased me down stairs with an iron bar and set fire to their own toys on the landing. Parties all the time

I also have horrible neighbours in my new flat. Ones who abused me in the street and reported me everywhere they could think of. I had to get police involved after a threat

One neighbour reported me for having a phone call on my own doorstep as I had my phone on speaker. My mum is deaf and having it on speaker helps her hear better

I still don't want to traumatise their yappy dogs

Harhar · 04/05/2026 14:42

I’ve been woken up daily by shitty neighbours who let their kids scream in the garden at 6.30am. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not just dogs that are noisy. I’m not crazy enough to want to eradicate all children though.

Well obviously because, again, children are people and if you eradicated children you would wipe out the entire human race 🙄

Yes it's really insulting to compare children with dogs. Children have the potential to grow up to be really useful people in society,

Dogs will need their poo picking up after them for their entire lives....

igelkott2026 · 04/05/2026 14:47

(And I realise I just compared the two)

They have the potential to grow up to be whiny mners too and God knows we have enough of them.

Lol, I don’t advocate sending kids off but we started talking about a specific dog which was a nuisance, then it rapidly turned into a you problem stating that you hated ALL dogs and ALL dog people. It’s clear you simply don’t like living near dogs, so you’re pretty much restricted to a flat in the city centre. The UK is a nation of animal lovers - 41% of households have dogs so statistically you hate nearly half of the UK population purely based on their pet. Where are you going to move to to be away from these people you hate.

The noise from these units doesn’t travel far at all and doesn’t pass through walls or windows so as long as the OP is not too close this wouldn’t be an issue at all

No, I’m sorry that’s not true. I can sit in my mum and dad‘s kitchen and hear their device in the back garden and when I arrive at the front of the house, it’s the first thing I can hear when I get out of the car.
