Hi, just after some local advice if possible? Looking to book a cottage in Northumberland for me, DP, 2 dds and dog. Looing at Amble - what's it like as a base??

Pleasant little town. It's Northumberland what's not to like. Berwick, Alnwick and the fleshpots of Whitley Bay, or the more gentile Tynemouth all within easy reach. just check the tide times if you're planning a trip to Holy Island. Inland you've got the national park and Kielder Water if you're bored of sandy beaches and castles.

I'm not local but Northumberland is beautiful. Will you have a car?
If yes, and you want a base by the sea, go for it.

Yes, will have car with us. Booked.

I was going to advise renting further north along the coast in a prettier village. But it will be ok if you have a car. When we’ve visited the Northumberland coast we’ve stayed in Almmouth and Bamburgh.

I like Amble as a place to stay, good choice OP.

We started in Amble when we started holidaying in Northumberland. But we have older teens and found it better to be slightly South. I think Amble is a great based though. Very handy for going north or south. Northumberland is my absolutely favourite place.

We stayed in Alnmouth a couple of years ago _ really liked it, but parking was abysmal!

Amble is a lovely place to stay. Very peaceful.
Lots of choice to eat out/takeaways.
A few shops
Great beach for dogs.
Good base for touring. Recommend Bambrugh- fantastic, clean beach.
Lindisfarne good for a trip.
Beautiful part of the world

We stayed in amble for the august bank holiday one year. Loved it that much we came back, sold up, gave notice on jobs and school and we're now living about 10 miles away. Wouldn't change a thing. It can be a bit rough around the edges in amble but a fantastic base to explore Northumberland.

We stay in Bamburgh, it's so lovely. Good base too for exploring the area.

There's a lovely ice cream shop in Amble...Spurreli's, I think it's called.

And can recommend the puffin boat trips from the harbour too.

You'll have a great time. Northumberland is a wonderful area.

Amble is good, close to my favourite beach at Warkworth.

Rough as, unless your by the marina. See also; Blyth.

Go further north - Warkworth, Alnwick, Beadnell.
