Seeing explicit insults after a poster has edited their hateful post.

I wonder if posters realise that everyone can see the unedited version of their post for a while? And that if they initially post a really sexually explicit insult, that editing their post to remove the sexual content doesn't make it disappear?
If such a thing were to happen to you, what would you expect the mods to do about the poster?

Assuming that it’s been reported, then at the very least that post should be deleted. Depending on the exact post, then possibly a ban.

There used to be an option for inappropriate edit, when you reported, but that’s disappeared now - not sure why

ApricotTulip · 25/04/2026 22:08

I didn't realise you could only see the original version for a while.

BIWI · 25/04/2026 22:36

As far as I know, there’s no time limit on seeing the edit

I would expect them to do nothing.

If the post as posted doesn't contain the insult, then there's no harm and no foul.

Why would you go checking an edited post to see the original that didn't make the final cut?

I had this directed at me under a different username. Also got some horrible PMs. Was told the poster had been banned.
I wonder if it’s the same guy. If so he’s a PBP and any posts should be deleted and he should be thrown out again.

Because the post was directed at me and was pretty awful as it was - I then realised it had been edited so was curious to see if the nasty comment was an edit in, however a much worse comment was edited out. I think it shows the measure of a person if they resort to insults of a sexual nature that many a TRA uses.

I'd expect them to be banned. Temporary or permanent depending on the situation.

i mean I got a temporary ban for saying (in general, not to a specific poster) 'you can't argue with stupid.

@mathanxiety

But there is. When MNHQ brought in the edit feature they made it very clear that ‘misuse’ of it would not be acceptable/allowed.
