How much for a hair cut and colour?

So today I had my hair cut and coloured (Senior Stylist) - absolutely love it!! I opted for two-tone of an ash blonde and a deep red. Full head of foils.
I've a lot of hair so was in the hairdressers for almost four hours as also had it cut. Even got a massage chair when the toner was applied and basically I was living my best pampering life!! Loads of foils with two ladies putting them all in as I have lots of hair!! 😆 Also had it cut, blow-dried and curled.
Really pleased with it and also had lots of lovely extra bits such as a Wellaplex toner, and given a bag of full-size products (colour care shampoo and conditioner and styling cream).
However, my mum thinks I "paid a lot" for the package which came to £200 in total.
I personally think it's reasonable!
Thoughts please 😀

I pay £70 in a really basic town hairdressers where the Spanish hairdresser knows every customer nearly her whole life. She us either related to them, want to school with them, they are daughters of her mums friends or similar. Im the odd one out as im not an original local. The shop is an amazing information exchange hub. Im happy with what I pay as she does my hair really nice and has taken me out of my comfort zone a few times which I have loved.

My much simpler cut & colour takes 90 min and cost £100. As yours took more than twice as long and was much more complicated, then double the price seems reasonable.

But I get mine done every five weeks. How often will you get yours done?

rootootoot · 24/04/2026 22:51

It sounds reasonable to me. Enjoy it if you can afford it.

DD's just charged someone £300 for a cut and full head colour with colour correction, and we live oop North.

She did spend around £50 beforehand on product, and that's not counting the lightener, peroxide, etc., that she already had in stock, and it took her 6 hours.

Youshouldbestrongerthanme · 24/04/2026 22:55

It was a "treat" I'd been saving a little for each week from my weekly pay. A luxury, but last had my hair done was last July!! The only beauty treatment I have - no nails or anything else like that. I imagine it will be another year at least before I do much else with it.
So why do I feel guilty for treating myself for once? 😞

Sounds OK to me.
I pay around 150 for a cut and two-tone colour for short hair - no products or even a blowdry or styling, just a natural dry.
Enjoy it and don't feel guilty. You hair will look great every day so it's money well spent.

nopiesleftinthisvehicle · 24/04/2026 23:00

Oh! What heaven to be pampered for 4hrs..and I love a massage chair 😍
I have my roots done every couple of months and pay 35 squid up north.

It's a simple job though, but I love the coffee and chat.

I bet you look and feel gorgeous and no, absolutely don't feel guilty!

Doublebubblegum · 24/04/2026 23:01

I pay £95 for a full head cut and colour. I have a short bob so need to get it done every 6 weeks.

Cece92 · 24/04/2026 23:01

I spent 4 hours getting my hair done the other week. Balayage then I got my roots done with toner, massage and a cut with blow dry and it was £75 xxx

Theonewhogotthecake · 24/04/2026 23:04

A half head foils with toner, wash, cut and blow dry just before Christmas in SE was £200.

@Cece92 Bargain Whereabouts in the country are you? Assuming UK?

@nopiesleftinthisvehicle Aw thanks - genuinely I was grinning from ear-to-ear the entire time as it is a rarity I am without a child by my side (either mine or my students!)
Feel like it did me the world of good, especially as I'm in the depths of perimenopause so haven't been feeling at all good about myself recently.
Definitely pleased with the boost it's given me and my husband has been lovely with the compliments too ❤️

I’m in central Scotland luv. I thought it was really reasonable and she had her work cut out with box dyed hair and I absolutely love it. Going to go back end of May to try get it slightly lighter x

Raindancer101 · 24/04/2026 23:27

My usual hairdresser had a price rise and I was now looking at £240 for a full set of foils, toner and cut blow dry, up from £210. That felt like it was a little more than I wanted to spend, so I tried another salon and paid £125. It's fine....and probably to everyone but me it looked the same but it's not as good and it won't last half as long. So I've decided it's false economy and I will be going back to my usual hairdresser with my tail between my legs 😂

MaidOfSteel · 24/04/2026 23:38

I have just had my hair done. Foil highlights and lowlights in three different colours, with a cut & finish. It was £60 and done by the salon owner, who has looked after my hair for nearly 10 years. I live in a rural part of the central belt in Scotland. If I had to pay £200+ a time I’d be going grey gracefully!

Youshouldbestrongerthanme · 24/04/2026 23:45

@MaidOfSteel Wow! You'd barely get a cut for that in the rest of the UK!

KeeleyJ · 24/04/2026 23:50

I get mine done every 2 months, costs £80. Takes about 2 hours, lots of highlights and lowlights & toner (stylists choice of colour as she's blending natural brunette/gray and I don't care what colour she puts in as long as my gray bits are less obvious!). She uses fancy products and never seems rushed, only does one client at a time.

Nodwyddaedafedd · 24/04/2026 23:53

I just got mine done today too!! 3.45 mins. 180. Half head foils, toner, cut and blow dry. I'm Sw. 40 quid more than when I was in yorkshire. My daughter said - I preferred you brown and grey rather than blonde. I appreciate the sentiment. I prefer not being quite so grey yet. I'll probably leave it 6 months at least!

Shinyhappyapple · Yesterday 00:00

It’s a lot more than what I pay, but I do think it sounds reasonable, two colours, treatments, two members of staff working on your hair for 4 hours.

By comparison although I only pay £50, this is to a mobile hairdresser (so no premises costs or staff), and I have an all over colour with trim and dry/style. Takes just over an hour.

sunshineandrain82 · Yesterday 00:01

I paid £120 today for half head of highlights and wash, cut blow dry.

I get the same thing every time and consistently pay £120.
if I wanted a full head it’s a extra £20.

really long hair. If they do a rough cut first takes 90 mins. If they do the foils first it’s about 2 hours.

Fooledaroundandfellinlove · Yesterday 00:04

About £120 London but not central.

Edited

How does a mobile one do the washing out-do you just go in the shower while she waits downstairs? I sit quicker than a salon, or basically the same minus travel time?
I think I'll be getting greys soon, but the thought of all the time and money puts me off (but OP, don't feel guilty if you enjoy it, for me if I start I know I'll need to go every 6 weeks, so that's why I hesitate).

Crispynoodle · Yesterday 00:06

£20 for full head of foils cut and blow dry. In my local FE college!

MyWildOliveGoose · Yesterday 00:11

I have very long hair and lots of it.. I pay £148 for a balayage, wet cut and blow dry… it takes a good 3 hours, maybe more.. I can’t say I look at the time much lol as long as I’m done by school run, I don’t care 🤣

PinkNailPolish2026 · Yesterday 00:13

I’m normally £75 for a cut and blow dry and £160 for balayage, they charge everything separately. My hair is elbow length and very thick though. I travel to Glasgow to get my hair done and make a weekend of it every 8 weeks as I can’t find a decent hairdresser near me that does my hair the way I like it.
