What would you do in this situation with 12yo?

My dd12 has participated in a completion at school and her team has one the national heats. The next stage is international and it takes place in new Zealand. She is very excited to have won. (Possibly terrified about going).

My whole body is telling me not to let her go. It feels waaaaaaaay to far.

Should I let her go?

Of course you let her go! What an amazing experience: Go with her if it worries you.

For reference I have a kid who plays a sport internationally so I speak from experience. It’s fine.

How exciting! I think you should let her go if she's keen.

Can you go too?

How exciting! I would totally let her go. Can you join the trip too? It’s the perfect excuse to go to NZ!

KidsAndDogsGalore · 24/04/2026 22:22

Let her go.
I'm not sure if you should be going yourself. That depends on your how your DD is feeling abou you being there and how the whole thing is organised.

I dont hsve any details about the organisation yet, I think it is about a week long. I could go and would like to, but it gets harder as she has 2 siblings, one is autisic and doesn't want to go, bit would enjoy, and the other is autistic and cant be away from me for long but would find it a nightmare. Also it is in term time. And millions of pounds for us all (which is the least concern tbh).

I mean, new Zealand!!! Why not berlin???
And we have friends in new Zealand who we have been wanting to visit for years but for price and autism, and would yoh belive it but they are coming to UK while she is there....
Ah. I am so torn about this. Just dont know what to do.
