Stair carpet - newly fitted and spongy on the vertical drop is that right?

Hi All, I had a new carpet fitted today on the stairs. It's a rental property and I have no idea what's normal as I've never had a stair carpet fitted.

I notice that on most stairs the carpet is spongy on the vertical drop, I can literally press it in where it's not fitted tightly to the lip edge.

I'm not sure if that's safe or normal or not?

Hard to show a picture on here but just wondering if it was a bit of a rush job or not?

Sounds normal the vertical bit isn’t nailed it drops down off the edge of the tread then secured in gripper rod ready for next tread

Sounds normal to me.

I had mine fitted about 3 years ago and I can kind of suck it forward with the hoover nozzle.

ok thanks! I think there's one step where it's more baggy than the others so maybe it's just that one

It'll probably settle in a few weeks as the other steps will get a bit baggier after hoovering.

But it does sound normal.
