I live at home with my mother due to a housing crisis. I help at home. I just can't afford a roof over my own head.
We have a cat. He was a stray or feral cat that came to visit our home. My mother started to feed him so he would stop meowing and stop making noise. A the time that he first started coming, I had a brother loving at home. he was not good. He was likely taking Dr&£s. There was a huge rollercoaster from him. So my mother would feed the cat to keep the cat quite in order to maintain peace. because my brother would rage and try and k1\ the cat.
My brother is gone living and working abroad now and he cleaned up his life.
The cat still visits. The cat is elderly now.
Also there are other issues now too. I think my mother is going senile. It's not memory loss based. It's behavioural and emotional based. As part of that there is OCD and paranoia amongst many more things.
Anyways the cat became injured a number of weeks ago. Likely a fox attacking him. He is likely definitely blind in one eye now.
If it was up to me I would take him to the vet. No talking about it. However I don't even have a car or I can't drive. It's hard to make an appointment for a feral cat because sometimes he's gone away too.
Anyways my mother is not more cruel to the cat. I think she sees him as something diseased and contagious and she is severely disgusted at him and his injury.
I am just after buying him a kennel to give him a place to rest and sleep properly outside.
My mother is arguing to me about the placement of the kennel in the yard. My mother wants it at the very end of the back yard and well away from the house. Her mind and her logic said it's in case we get storms and there's a wall at the end of the yard.
However it's a big yard. I don't know how big but you could likely fit about 4 or 5 mobile homes back theres.
There's no security in the back yard and I think he's more likely going to be attacjed by foxes at the end of the yard because the end of the yard is more isolated.
The thing is, the cat is not going to use the kennel at the end of the yard. He prefers to stay close to the front or the back door.
And I think it makes more sense to keep the kennel close to the house.
My mother already has an idea for the kennel at the back of the house at the end of the yard so I am thinking about the front of the house.
He behaviour isn't right. He's an old injured cat and she has now become more disgusted at him because he's injured. When he needs someone to help him. She just thinks he is secretly diseased and contagious and she wants him away from the home. But she will still keep feeding him.
Her brain isn't working right. He's not going to use the kennel at the back of the yard.
What do you guys think? I would like to keep the kennel close to the house. My mother is saying it needs protection from storms and rain. It's a plastic kennel. It's for dogs. There's a medium sized door opening. That will be the only thing that would need shelter to keep rain out. I do have one idea if the kennel but I suspect she just won't like it. She wants to stick the kennel at the end of the yard where the cat likely won't even use it.
