Alternatives to borax for getting rid of ants

I've always killed ants with a bait made from borax, sugar and water. Now I've run out of borax I can't buy it anywhere, I had no idea it was banned in the UK for domestic use!! 😱

What else gets good consistent results? Nippon used to be crap and this was the only thing that ever worked. Please share your tried and trusted brands or methods.

I had success with Zoflora

We used to get ants coming into the house. But after I sprayed the edges of the rooms with Indorex as an addition to treating the cat for fleas, both ants and fleas disappeared. The cat is long gone, but if I find any ants (they sometimes come up through the conservatory floor where it joins the house) a quick spray soon persuades them to leave.

Diatomaceous earth sprinkled all around the outside inside anywhere the ants are coming in.

I find any powder sprinkled along their path tends to divert them back where they came from. Talcum, washing, get adventurous!

Considering the thick layer of dust I found them in it seems my ants are rather resilient to particles. 😂 I think they're coming in behind a couch under a window so the skirting board hasn't been cleaned in ages.

To stop them coming in, rather than killing them, peppermint oil. On holiday in Malta we noticed that a lot of ants were coming in through a crack in the tiles - we smeared it with toothpaste - no more ants.
