A Reform campaigner just came to my door and said ...

Hello, I'm from the Labour party, oh sorry I mean Reform party, and then tried to give me leaflet whilst quickly trying to cover what she'd said!

I felt quite sorry for her as she's obviously switched sides and was clearly embarrassed.

I politely declined a chat and wished her well.

😂😂😂

Just about sums up the state of British politics. The parties are all pretty much interchangeable and it really won’t make much difference which one you vote for (or indeed canvas for).

Her job is simply is to tell you a story and give you a leaflet. She’s on a zero-hours contract and paid hourly-and is probably distributing leaflets for labour as well.

I say 'I will only vote for you if you want to bring back the death penalty'.
That usually shuts them up.

Yes, just like the chuggers who follow you and shout angrily at you that you "must hate children" if you decline to give them your bank details... when even they only found out that morning that they were assigned to be seeking sign-ups by invoking sick children, rather than poorly pets or abandoned donkeys!

Monty36 · 22/04/2026 15:08

They are usually politically interested locals who volunteer their time and go campaigning on behalf of said political party.

AntiqueBabyLoanSmurf · 22/04/2026 15:08

When I was a teenager, I delivered free local newspapers in our town for some extra spending money. At one point, as with many others, I was delivering for both of the 'rival' local papers in my neighbourhood, and they had a very strict rule that, if you did that, you must keep them separate and couldn't deliver both at the same time, or using the other's branded bag to carry them in.

It does seem weird that, if two little local companies that send out papers that are 75% adverts and the rest the same local non-news can be so strict in demarcating their individual territory, two supposedly major national political parties can be so indiscriminate about who represents them!

People delivering political leaflets and knocking are normally volunteers.

Just before the last GE a bloke walked into my garden to give me the Labour leaflet.

He was the Labour candidate and is now our MP.

That's highly unlikely. They're almost invariably local party members who volunteer.

They might occasionally pay people just to put leaflets through the letterbox (although there's usually no shortage of volunteers to do that) but they don't tend to pay people to canvass and campaign like that. It's not like fundraising where they just reel off a script - if they're canvassing they need to be abreast of the issues and policies of the party and need to be capable of arguing and debating with people whose doors they're knocking on.

Restore then.
Thats one of his potential policies.
