Present ideas for 2yo

What gift ideas would you buy a 2 year old who you don't know?

My DD has been invited to her first birthday party this weekend. It is a boy from her nursery and I am a little clueless on what to buy. I am quite embarrassed for feeling like this and am probably overthinking it but I'm a lone parent and dont have much of a friendship/social group myself, so I am really keen for my DD to socialise when she gets the chance.

Any suggestions would be great.

Books are always a good idea and quite safe. Just to say, inviting the whole nursery class for a party seems to be common now, so don't spend too much as it might add up by the end of the year. Bubbles, stickers, books, puzzles are all reasonably priced and popular.

I have a 2yo and hands down the most popular party present has been the book 'You Choose'. I am now asked to chain-read it and it'll last ages - have stocked up so I can also gift it!

Also look at the Orchard Games. Some really nice simple games in compact boxes.

Gift vouchers
Water table
Bath toys
Books
If you have pictures from the nursery of him and DD and other kids (like something from the group chat if there is one), you can make a cute picture calendar which would be more for the parents but it's still a nice token gift.

I would avoid branded character things.

Books are great. My 2yo loves the Mog books and the T.S. Eliot cat poems illustrated by Arthur Robbins.

Orchard Toys games are good too.
